A safe deposit box is great for protection, but since we're talking paper here, you might want to ask a lot of questions at the bank before you put anything in there. Many places don't have humidity control in the vault area, so you might as well leave your bills out on the front steps. And some that do have humidifiers because normal paper stores longer under slight humidity, but not all. My primary bank keeps the temp at a constant 58 degrees with about 12% humidity. I don't know if thats good for currency or not, as I don't keep anything in the boxes anyhow. I'd consult an expert on banknote conservation as well as the vault manager of any bank you may plan to store them in before making any descisions. Guy~
Go or call one of the local State or National Archives and ask them how they protect the many papers they have to save and protect. That should give you a good idea on what to do. -O)
Maybe, but remember, most currency isn't made of parchment, like most documents, so many factors of preservation are different. Guy~
Yes, but a large amount of old documents were not of the acid paper as we have today, it was much like our currency of today. All of the very old books that we have today are of the old rag paper. -O)
Great information guys!! You really have to do your homework that,s what Iam trying to do, Be well informed thats the "Key"
