    They should have come in a rusty can...

    I think there will be more hoards discovered in the future. Any wealthy collector or dealer can buy a thousand circulated double eagles, put them in old cans, bury them in the their yard for a few years. Dig them up, call the press, get them graded as fill in the blank hoard. Make 3 times your money when they sell them.

    Will the cans be graded and sold as "exonumia"?

    :)

    Not so sure how that would turn out at tax time - giving up the basis...

    Just checked out some prices.

    1879-S $20 PCGS XF40

    Price Guide Value = $1,555 (Down from $1570)
    Amazon Price = $3,150

    Saddle Ridge Premium = $1,595

    Upside = None

    Decision to buy = No. These will be long term loser's unless Gold decides to hit $2500 an ounce. Then they'll be winners. (Along with everything else)

    How about the mint state pieces? An 1880's or early nineties S mint $20 has always been expensive in say MS63. I certainly agree that these common date circs are vastly overpriced.

    Actually, even if gold hits that price, they could be losers. They'll certainly be LAGGARDS.

    Has anybody been tracking the Saddle Ridge coins the last few years price-wise ?
