Panama also uses the Sac dollar. In 2002 a major counterfeiting ring was discovered in Columbia. They where counterfeiting the Sac and Anthony dollars and sending them to Ecuador. Here's a link with pictures of the counterfeit coins. http://home.earthlink.net~smalldollars/dollar/add014.html

    prez dollar

prez dollar's rim were very lightly punched and poorly done. unlike foreign coin were so beautifully punched on its rim. some alphabet were even higher than its rim. like floated within the rim.

As pointed out in many other threads, the mint mark and date are on the rim because Congress required it in the law authorizing the DeadPrez series. The Mint absolutely, positively, and without any doubt can not move them unless Congress passes a new law telling them to.

Why does the US Mint STOP sell the Sacagawea Dollar rolls from their web site so early? They are required to produce 4,000,000 of the Sac Dollars, but yet they stop selling the rolls as if they were sold out. Thanks for an interesting thread.

I like the pres dollar more, easily better than the SBA and the 'evil' and odd looking portrait of Ike. Of the 2, its very close, both have faults, but I think after seeing a nice toned washie...I am going to vote for it.

Also, I have spent about 20+ dollars worth of these mostly using them for tips or to buy low priced items. I never got a negative reaction, in some cases I got a puzzled reaction (waitress didnt know what to think of it) but mostly interested reactions or they just dont care. Only maybe 2 made a comment about them being the new dollar (showing they knew about the new coins)

What reason would someone have to do that? Thats what 5,10 & 20 $ bills are for.:goofer:
I get a roll of dollar coins at the bank each week and put 4 in my pocket each day to use in the machines at work. They don't weigh much more than 4 quarters do.

    sac & vs: prez $

in the future, the 2007 sac dollar unc roll will be better than the 2007 prez dollar. right now is around 10% higher than prez $. of course the mint is still selling at the same price right now. but my point is that just get it from the bank. get the sac dollar unc roll. it will be better to hold it.

The only Sac dollars available from the banks are dated 2000 & 2001. This might change in the future because the 2007 sac mintage will be double any of the single President coin issues.

Small correction, the Fed cahnged from a last in first out (LIFO) inventory system to a First In First Out (FIFO) system in the early 80's. When that change occured a lot of MS coins from the mid to late 60's entered circulation, but now it means that they don't have older coins in their inventory.

With the current FIFO inventory system they normally are only delivering older coins for a short time after the change of the year. They have such large quantities of 2000 and 2001 sac dollars though that they are still delivering those several years later. For a short time when a new coin is first released you may get some of those released to banks but you can't count on that. For that reason the 2007 Sac dollars may not show up at the banks for some time because they may have to wait until the last of the 2000 and 2001 coins are gone first. Even worse, if the President dollars start piling up at the Fed, as they probalby will, the 2007 Sac's may have to wait until the stockpile of Washingtons are depleatedas well before they get sent to the banks. (The Washington available right now is due to a special "new coin" ordering system they set up for the President coins. That system is closed right now I believe until two weeks before the release of the Adams dollar.) The drawdown rate at the Fed for the dollar coins is around 7 million coins a month. If half of the Washingtons didn't get ordered by the banks under the early release system then there would be at least a 20 month delay before the 2007 Sacs should hit the banks at the current draw rate.

    sac dollar

why is it that the dealers were already selling the 2007 sac dollar roll at $42.00?. where they got those rolls?. and so far i did not see people using sac dollar in quantity. that's mean the dollar coin is a failure again. it is only for investors and collectors.

They bought them from the mint.

kinda...remember the mint absolutely, positively, and without any doubt could not mint the new Saints in 1908 without the (also required by law) motto "In God We Trust" unless Congress passed a new law allowing them to, yet they did.

I know I'm nitpicking, but even though the law requires it doesn't guarantee that the mint will always follow the law (though I think it is very likely they will follow it in this case).

Let's make that statement 100% accurate, in a manner that would satisfy my high school English teacher, may he rest in peace:

Although any one, including government agencies can violate the law,

    prez dollar

as of today, i still did not see any individual using sac or prez dollars. only the one talking about dollar were the collectors and investors. i see another failure on the dollar series. simply because it is too bulky. reduce its size to quarter or smaller. take out all one dollar note. then it will work.

Size would not matter if the $1 bill were gone. Our dollar coin is the exact same size as the Canadian dollar coin that circulates freely.

Sorry, but when the 1907 double eagle and then the 1908 "godless" double eagles came out there was no law that required the motto to appear. The Act of March 3rd 1865 Chapter C Sec 5 merely ALLOWED the motto to be placed on the coins, it did not require it to appear.

Sec 5 And be it further enacted That in addition to the devices and legends upon the gold, silver, and other coins of the United States, it shall be lawful for the director of the mint, with the approval of the Secretary of the Treasury, to cause the motto "In God we trust" to be placed upon such coins hereafter to be issued as shall admit of such legend thereon.

So the Godless coins were perfectly legal. (However the Buffalo nickel is NOT legal because when Congress ordered the motto restored to the coins in 1908 they mandated that it appear on all future US coins.
