Here you go, a Double Pinch. This is from the ill-fated S.S. Central America. This ship sank off the coast of the Carolinas in September 1857. That was 167 years ago, a few years before the start of the Civil War. The gold on this ship was being shipped from the gold fields in California.
A “pinch” was a way to measure gold dust in the days of the gold rush. A standard pinch would buy you a glass of whiskey. Saloons would hire guys with large hands to measure the gold.

That’s unbelievable but true. One can commit murder and spend less time in jail.

Tommy Thompson is likely to die in jail all because he lost his stolen gold! He probably got burned trying to sell it off in a hurry and fronted it to thieves. Whoever had those gold coins probably melted them down years ago, great lesson on why not to steal. :cigar:

    He clearly is hiding SOMETHING.

It's ridiculous that the guy won't testify -- what is he hiding ?

I doubt he knows anything, I think he got ripped off and nobody believes him! Nobody is gonna stay in jail by choice for 9 years over 500 gold coins, I don't care how much they're worth I wouldn't stay, I'd be singing like Elvis! 112.gif

Then he should just say that.

I'm wondering if the court/judge think HE helped himself to some of the coins as "overhead" and not part of the "proceeds" to be divvied up.:wideyed:

In the movie his girlfriend says that she personally handed them over to some undesirables, so I think he's an idiot and he fronted the coins to someone and they ripped him off. My guess is he's probably told the police but the reality is so stupid, they don't believe him! :D It's a great example on why you shouldn't steal for sure! lol.gif
