I like TIF's subtly toned coin.

The eBay coins look garish and unnatural. Why not chrome plate your ancients if that is this month's sales fad for shysters? Who cares what happened to these coins over the last 2000 years? I got to cash in now on this hot fad. Here is another seller to avoid for the next 30 years...

Before we went on holiday, a couple of weeks ago, I was watching a bottle of toning stuff on ebay. Before we left, I cleared out my watch list and don't remember who the seller was. I think this seller must have bought a bottle.

Carthago Does this look infected to you?

The JC Aureus in this thread is now listed at $200,000, not $130,000. And I was going to "Buy it Now"...

As for the rainbow monster toning, I've seen it to a much lesser intensity on some old collection ancients that are unlikely to have been doctored so I believe it is possible to occur naturally. I'm reasonably certain these coins have been doctored. I have been seeing more of these clownish coins for sale in German auctions. It's gross. :vomit:

That is a pretty reverse and the color will calm down in time.

First off I did not give her this website. I just Said "people with decades of experience think your coins are artificially toned".

SECOND I redacted because there is one more coin I want lol

So now you will have a glimpse of my character.

Dear Friend. Thank you for your message.

These coins are from the collection of Dr. Kely MD. His father also a Doctor got them from Eurachius Collection during 1949-1960 in Berlin.
This is the last group of the coins that are on sale.

There is no way that these coins are chemically altered. I already send 1 coin in NGC for encapsulation ( Already sold )
    eBay item number:301922620906

    NGC encapsulated without a problem.

I sold over 1400 coins and from them only 60 were with gold iridescent tone.

There are many opinions between amateurs, however if you don't have the coin in hand, it's impossible to make a real analysis with microscope.

I will appreciate if you tell me which website are they talking ?

Also from my experience, when people see many iridescent coins on-sale, they start to think that it's too beautiful to be true.

Toning refers to the formation of a thin surface layer of metal compound, chiefly oxide or sulfide.Silver coins, for example, become grey on reaction with oxygen or sulfur In rare cases of very old silver coins, might create attractive blue iridescence or gold tone, which may be a result of partial photo-induced decomposition of surface silver compounds. However this is a very rare phenomena and it needs the right humidity, temperature, and right chemicals in the air otherwise the coin will turn black. Dr.Eucharius Rösslin had his collection stored in his office. Also in his office were a lot of little animals or mummified body parts. Due to high ammonia in his office, the air was the perfect agent to create these wonderful toning.

So what is the Roma sale? So you are saying the coin was bought at that sale TONED and resold on E-BAY

NGC will encapsulate ancient coins with surface/environmental damage, overly cleaned ancient coins that have been damaged due to harsh cleaning, etc. They don't apply the same standards for ancients as they do for others. I've seen some NGC encapsulated ancient coins that were simply puke inducing junk due to smoothing/harsh chemical cleaning, etc.

Angel: I like the coin you chose, good eye!

If it was artificially toned recently it can be removed easily enough. I don't think the golden tone is ugly or too unnatural.

Don't get me wrong, i think @AngelDeath got a nice coin regardless, I'm just simply pointing out that an ancient coin being encapsulated by NGC doesn't mean anything else except they think it's genuine (and they don't even guarantee that). Outside of that NGC could care less if the coin is smoothed, patina has been stripped, it's been artificially toned, etc.
