What forms of mylar has plasticizers? All I have ever ran into are free from them.

Unfortunatley the scientists at Dupont are mum on this in many cases as not to give away their formula, but...only Mylar in it's pure form, before being made into products like flips are free of the plastisizers that make them soft and pliable enough to use as we do. Although I did work in plastics for 38 years, even I did not know all of the exact formulas. I worked with many plastics over the years, like polypro, polyethylene, styrene, and various other plastics. But by no means am I a scientist.

Not a lot of difference in the structure of PVC and Saran
PVC polymer chain built of these units
    H Cl
    C-C
    H H

Saran polymer chain built of these units
    H Cl
    C-C
    H Cl

Saran has more Chlorine in it.

That is the wonderful thing about chemistry, very simple chemical changes can lead to drastic physical changes. Sodium is a metal so active it "burns" in water and chlorine is a toxic, corrosive gas, but sodium chloride is salt and is necessary for life. Saran has more chlorine content than PVC, but is a more stable compound, is MUCH tougher and is a MUCH better gas barrier.
