I collect Roman Republican coins, cast bronze from Central Italy and Roman scales and scale weights. You can see below that 2019 included all 3 areas.

    10. Two Ship’s Prow Coins - This pair of coins were purchased together and show Roman (coin of Luceria) and Macedonian (coin of Perseus) ship’s prows.

Left Coin - Macedon, time of Philip V – Perseus (187-168 BC). AR Tetrobol; Pella or Amphipolis.
Right Coin - Roman Republican Uncia, L series, Luceria (214-212 BC). Æ

    9. Hybrid Denarius
A hybrid coin has an obverse from one coin series and a reverse from another. The coin looks like a fourree. It is likely that the coin was minted by ancient forgers.

    M. Servilius, Cr. 327/1 (obv. type) / L. Sentius, Cr. 325/1b (rev. type)

    8. Capis Pedium Aes Grave Uncia

Mint – Uncertain Central Italy - 280-260 BC
    Obv – Pitcher
    Rev – Shepherds crook

    7. L.ROSCI.FABAIT RR denarius; Cr. 412/1; 64 BC, Rome

Last year the coin on the left made my top 10. It had a standing scale on the obverse and a weight box on the reverse. This year’s coin has a hand scale on the obverse and a modius on the reverse. A modius was used to measure by volume.

    6. This coin is a Hercules / Prow Quadrans that was struck over a Roma, left / Prow, right Semilibral Uncia.
    upload_2019-12-19_12-51-2.png upload_2019-12-19_12-51-12.png
AE Quadrans, (The seller said Staff series Cr 106/7. When I posted the coin here, our RR expert A McC said Cr 56/6), after 211 BC, Rome.
Obv – The top coin: Head of Hercules right, wearing lion's skin; behind, three pellets. The bottom coin: Head of Roma left, behind 1 pellet.
Rev - Prow of galley right, ROMA above, 3 pellets below.
This coin is #43 in Crawford's list of overstruck coins – Cr 56/6 over Cr 38/6. Also in Crawford's list, #99, is Cr 106/7 over Cr 38/6.

    5. Romano - Byzantine Scale Weight
    upload_2019-12-19_12-55-10.png
Romano - Byzantine One Pound Commercial Weight, 4th-6th centuries. Æ
Obv - Cross flanked by ÎA (some say Î is LI in ligature = one Roman pound or Libra); all within wreath.
    Rev - Blank.
    Cf. Bendall 51.
VF, green-brown surfaces, a few scrapes.
    56x56mm,
    323.8 g

    4. Voting on Roman coins - I have had a RR denarius with voting on the reverse for several years. In 2019, I added three more. The two coins on the left are 4a & 4b.

    Clockwise from top left:

    P. Licinius Nerva, 113BC, Cr 292/1;

    C. Cassius Longinus, 55 BC, Cr 428/1

    3. Roma Wheel Aes Grave As
In most years, this would be my top coin. It is has high relief and is well preserved.

Roman Republican AE Cast As, Roma/Wheel series, Rome, c. 265-242 BC.
Obv - Head of Roma right, wearing Phrygian helmet with pinnate crest; behind, mark of value I, set horizontally.
Rev - Six-spoked wheel; between two spokes, I.
    Cr, RRC
    204.48 grams - a very light example
    66.0 mm

    2. In 2019 I dived deep into Roman scale weights. The highlight was a barrel weight with silver inlayed AA. The one pound Roman weight (= Libra or As) was part of the 10 piece lot shown below.
This weight is a few centuries older than the Libra, #5 above. The cross was probably not used on official weights when the AA barrel weight was made.

    upload_2019-12-19_13-3-43.png
    Roman and Byzantine weights:
According to Bendall, two of the weights are Roman and 8 of the weights are late Roman to early Byzantine. The earlier weights indicate denominations in VNCIA (ounces). The later weights use Greek letters and monograms.
Denominations: 1/8th uncia (ounce) to one Libra (Roman pound).
૪ = OY in monogram, OY is an abbreviation for ΟΥΝΓΓΙΑ (UNCIA or ounce).

    1 Cast Æ Semis Pegasus / Pegasus
This coin is #1 because it is a great coin and it reminds me of how much fun I had obtaining it. I was able to preview the coin at Roma's office and see plenty of neat cast coins.

Not only do you have some nice coins and related items, but the thought you seemed to have put into each everyone is plain to see. Very interesting group of Top 10 (or more).

Yours is an interesting collection! The wheel aes grave and Pegasus cast semis are of course standouts but I'm also drawn to the voting scene coins and the Juno Sospita denarii. Looks like you had another fabulous year!

Also, your wife is quite a skilled knitter :). Is the black sheep hat yours and the white sheep hat hers? :D

I mostly liked the silver denarius with the scale and the big terrifying snake. The collection of the weights is also awesome. Congrats.. Keep going,

Those HATS are so gorgeously beautiful!!! What workmanship! Kudos to your thoughtful and talented wife! I was trying to plot out a very simple geometric design for a bag I wanted to crochet and I tell you...it is NOT easy!! Look!! Your wife put sheep all around!! Amazing design. And I like them as a backdrop for your coin!

I especially enjoyed looking at your weights. These are really nice. For some reason I find the small ancient weights intriguing.

    Thank you for sharing.

@rrdenarius - excellent coins in my favorite category, especially #1, #3, and the Cr 413/1 - the side view of the "1 Cast Æ Semi" helps to fully appreciate. Love the presentation with hats! Best wishes.

yes, the hat pattern was for Wool Week and I wanted one slightly different. I saw 3 (out of several hundred) with black sheep.

I had a chance to visit the British Museum. They have some great pieces on display. I had a chance to visit their coin room where I looked at... cast coins.

#3 is my favourite, followed by #1 - but if you told me why you prefer the semis my feelings could easily switch. I also really like the quadrans overstruck on the uncia!

Here's a Roscius I picked up recently. No scales, but I did wonder if the reverse control symbol might be a foldable measuring rod:

I've been looking for a good example of this coin. I found one a couple of weeks ago that had a beautiful iridescent coloring, but the reverse had a bad strike and the snake was only partially struck. The hunt goes on.
