    spock - you can use any kitchen knife to open Air-Tites.

    The blade on these tools are usually concave and tapered so there's less chance of it slipping and getting away from you.

    But to each his own. I mean technically you could use a hammer to open them too... ;)

    Spock: sounds dangerous but I use a razor blade- square one not encased. Pops right open with no damage to air-tite. Takes very little pressure so I don't worry about slipping. I twist blade side to side (trying to rotate it) and air-tite pops right open.

    Boss, just be sure not to play with xyelene and razor blades at the same time... ;)

    Oh yeh, no- xylene and razor blades. I have fried a few IS holders and air-tites with Xylene too close and it ruins them- drips on. I may go back to acetone as the xylene gave me a cough/congestion x 1 week now. If I get near it I start coughing. No problem with acetone however.

    If you send it out to be slabed, Isn't it going to come back Cleaned?

    You make a good point, but I was actually refering to the lightheadedness (is that a word?) associated with prolonged use of xylene and acetone in a poorly ventilated area... lol.
