@Siberian Man and others - impressive display of Romanian coins. Our coins are not that popular outside Romania. This has been my main focus area in my collection for 8 years. Some of my coins could be updated but I am happy with the status. I will post some of the coins that are rare/nice conservation 1 leu 1870, the first coin in our history with this value and also the first circulation coin depicting Carol I. (there is also the 20 lei 1868 coin with his portrait, but it was never a circulating coin and it's next to impossible to find one) 2 bani 1881. From a series of 2 bani 1879-1880-1881. This is a very rare coin, although the mintage states 1.250.000 coins, this was just in theory. Until the 10th of May 1881 Romania was a principality - and Carol had the title of Domn. On that date Romania became a kingdom and Carol's title became Rege (king). So a very small number of 2 bani 1881 with DOMN were actually available. 5 lei 1901 - from the series of 5 lei, one of the most beautiful Romanian coins. Not the rarest year, but my best example. And another very artistic coin, from the series of 1 leu and 2 lei 1910-14 If this subject still shows interest, I can post other examples of Romanian coins, as my collection is almost complete.
Nice. I have a couple Romanian Coins. A 1944 20 LEI and 3 15 Bani 2 from 1960 and 1 1966. My parents have visited Romania prior to the Assassination of Nicolae Ceausescu in 1989.
Although the design of Kingdom era coins was, in my opinion, superior to Republic coins, here is an early Republic one that doesn't look bad 20 lei 1951, aluminum. In the communist era, the main motif for coins were agriculture and industry, as @Mary Pampu mentioned before. Interesting fact - the same reverse design (worker, hammer, anvil....) was again used after a few years, on the 50 Bani 1955 and 1956.
I would say XF40 were it not for the minor tap at 11 o'clock obverse, probably takes it down to VF35. Looks original though, nice looking coin. I've got the 20 Lei in gold, same design, one of my favorites.
Classic Soviet designed imagery. I love the design of Romanian coins from the 1950s, all of them quintessentially communist in motif. Most of them are super common, but not that easy to find in true superb gem condition.
