You intimidated the class, Nobody wants to raise their hand. But from my seat.....way in the back row, I wonder if you are referring to the eid mar? or the agrippa? I saw them last night. Out of my price range unless I sell a kidney..........or a kid....hmmm I have two of those also. However, I do want to know about a couple of those gold coins, the coin with the lamb I am completely unfamiliar with. I have a feeling it is cheaper than a kid, or kidney but more than a pound of flesh........... I like it a lot and that usually means I can't afford it.
The EID MAR. The Agrippa is a nice coin but most potential bidders on the EID MAR are hoping to buy the lowest grade coin in their collection and would have no interest in other coins with that obverse surface. Obviously I'm not a potential bidder and would not be even if the coin were a match to my Agrippa. Using my theory of a rough coin really having to be special, the second coin of choice mus be Theo Marino (father of Philip the Arab) with a rough reverse. If I were buying a gold, I'd want the Trajan crocodile restoration but I assume the Brutus will draw more attention. It looks like a nice catalog.
I have been very tempted to order the Triton/Adams catalogues but have resisted so far. The digital version will have to suffice! For those who don't know CNG posts their auction catalogues on issuu if you are looking for an extra resources to bookmark: http://issuu.com/cngcoins
Last night I took a quick cruise through both upcoming Triton sessions. Wow wow wow... some amazing coins.
I love auction season! I've got 3 coins in Triton. All nice, but one particularly fetching with an important provenance lost to history until I found it again: Rodolfo Ratto - Joseph Martini of New York Collection - February 1930. It's beautifully toned.
I love that L.CORNELIUS LENTULUE & C.CLAUDIUS MARCELLUS ROMAN REPUBLIC AR Denarius. Here is my budget example OBVERSE: Facing head of Medusa in center of triskeles, ear of corn between each leg REVERSE: Jupiter standing right, holding thunderbolt and eagle; LENT MAR to left, COS to right Rome 49 BC 3.08g, 18-16mm Crawford 445/1b; Sear 4; Sydenham 1029; Cornelia 64a
Hey, Bing, yours is centered better (but it loses 98 of the 99 other categories). That one is its yours!
Sadly, I can't find a pic of my triskeles. It's pretty nice. I'll compromise with its pal, Crawford 445/2.
I'm still looking for my 445/2. I want one with great hair. I missed one in NAC a few years back, maybe RBW or was it the Student? Yours is fabulous.
I am looking to purchase a Coin of the Social War , where the Italian Bull gores the Roman wolf . Can anyone give me some direction on where to find or purchase it?
It's a very scarce and very popular type, seldom offered. I'm not aware of any on the market right now. The most recent sale I can quickly find is this one, (not in my collection,) sold in May 2017 (Nomos 14, lot 233.) That hammered at 36,000 CHF, approximately $36,776 at the time. Phil Davis
