Some of my favorite toned RR denarii, quinarii and victoriati. The top one is a recent purchase that I haven't shared yet.
If that first Victoriatus was from Agora, we may have bid against each other. No wonder I haven't been able to find one at a price I want to pay, you are hoarding them all. Seriously, nice collection of early Roman silver!
That first one was actually a coin shop purchase from CNG, ex "Volteia Collection" though I'm not quite sure what/who that means as the only references I've found to it are in CNG descriptions. Its been telling me to buy it for a while so I finally decided to go for it.
Time machine?? I was there!! I just had the foresight to put my last pay-bag under my pillow before I took a long nap.
Fantastic coins guys!!! I guess I'll share one more of the 'toned' type--- a denarius of Decimus (Albinus) Brutus with Pietas:
With two Alibnus posted so far, I have to show mine. Most have decent toning for some reason (hoard find?) Mine:
Victor England at CNG told me they named the collection that for the rare Volteia that was part of it. M. Volteius M.f. 75 BC. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.71 g, 6h). Rome mint. Laureate head of Apollo right / Tripod-lebes with serpent coiled around central leg; S·C D·T across field, M·VOLTEI M·F in exergue. Crawford 385/5; Sydenham 778; Volteia 5.
Magnificent coins, nice to see these beauties after a long 14 hour day cutting lawns in 35 degree celsius HEAT! Have to confess, I had a few ice cold Coronas on the job.
