Is anybody else watching the Dr. Busso Peus Nachf Auction 419??? Right now 6:25 am Eastern Standard time April 27th. If you like denarii check it out!!!!!! This is epic. SO many Denarii and so many types. I still have not even browsed through all of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe some of these are Imperial denarii but I never knew there were so many different types existed! I'm floored. What are these??? One is Venus and Cloacina. Cloacina is the goddess of the sewers right? What is that person riding? It is a horse???
Right https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ancients-a-deity-worthy-of-respect.251682/ The Peus auction does have a good number of Roman coins (not an extraordinary number) but you'd better pace yourself -- there are huge auctions like this frequently, throughout the US and Europe. https://www.numisbids.com/ https://sixbid.com/
Love that post about Venus Cloacina! I am totally amazed with the number of different types of denarii in that auction. So many coins I have never even seen before. What a wealth of ancient knowledge that is preserved in the coinage. Don't worry I am not buying any. There was only one coin in the auction that I wanted and I wasn't home when it went up for auction. Now I'm just browsing the catalogue in awe of the vastness of imagery and history contained in Roman denarii.
Sounds like you might enjoy auction catalogs . I can get lost for hours on end drooling over the big auction houses' catalogs. The old Numismatic Fine Arts catalogs have been particular enjoyable, as are catalogs which include paragraphs of historical notes.
https://peus-muenzen.auex.de/live/?id=441 They're on a break right now, resuming with lot 404 in about 15 minutes.

Try reviewing the auction on Numisbids. In Chrome, when I click on a coin to view the details, usually the description is automatically translated. Some terms and abbreviations will be incorrect but you can get a better idea of things.
The Peus auction had a nicely assembled old collection with pedigrees that routinely went back 40 years. I expect some of the coins can be traced back even further. I bought these, I hope:
If you want to see the full breadth of RR denarii(and RR coinage in general) check out the RBW Collection sale from NAC. It was done in two parts. NAC 61 - RBW Collection Part 1 - Beginnings to 90 B.C. NAC 63 - RBW Collection Part 2 - 90 B.C. to Actium There were many types struck during the Republic and there were many types with interesting family propaganda and whatnot struck during from the latter part of the second century B.C. through the end of the Republic.
I missed my prime target due to my bid button error described in another thread. I did manage the following consolation prizes which hopefully arrive safely. I don't like posting before receipt, but @Carthago started It!
