Here is poster number one of my denarii collection. One of the denarii from my second poster is still in the mail (I think it's going to be my favorite denarius). Poster number one is 5 Julias and 5 Good Emperors. Poster number two will feature first century emperors. Caption correction: 4:07 PM EST 9/21/18
Looking at DR's coin and mine, I started wondering the situation... my coin's obverse has a non-laureate head of MA and doesn't have Aurelius in legend, yet my reverse indicates a possible later time than DR's by the Tribunal Power (TR P - Tribunitia Potestas) 17 (XVII), where DR's has TR P 16 (XVI). In looking around, it appears DR's coin with XVI was struck 161-162 AD and mine with XVII was struck 163 AD... So why the non-laureate head and no AVREL legend? Any insight?
Thanks for the kind words @Justin Lee ! That's a cool coin with a beautiful old silver color. Also, I've transposed the captions of couple of Julias I promise to fix them by and by
Not sure about your XVII denarius but the Fiver poster has been corrected I think! Many thanks, @Justin Lee !
That coin comes with three different obverse legends and five bust styles in various combinations. Yours is BMCRE4 220, p. 414; RIC3 71, p. 218 (type). Here's the listing in BMCRE, p. 414. Your bust type is described as "Head of Marcus Aurelius, bare, right, with drapery on left shoulder." Here's the actual coin in the British Museum collection (#220). Yours is nicer:
You should add to the bottom of the poster: ‘Deacon Ray is a total boss!’ Great coins, my friend! Erin
Thank you, Erin! Your kind thoughts and words are always motivating. Ancient coin collecting for me has been an amazingly delightful adventure. I'm fortunate to have found this forum which is like no other internet forum. CTAF is one of a kind
