Long story: The only bank I stopped at yesterday that had no halves had a very friendly (and beautiful) young teller. She and I chatted for a few minutes yesterday and she mentioned she would save any halves for me, but she’d worked there two months and hadn’t received a single half dollar. When she mentioned she was willing to save any halves for me I offered my name and phone number and she accepted it. She told me she would call me if anyone brought in halves. Readers, don’t get the wrong idea here because I’m old enough to be her father! Anyhow, today my phone rang and lo and behold it was her, and she was very excited! She told me she had 1 half dollar. I was immediately suspicious it was a common, crummy Cu-Ni clad coin, so I politely asked her to describe it to me. She said it had George Washington on it. Then I knew it was a commemorative, so I asked if it was silver. She said she knew nothing about coins, so she couldn’t tell. I told her no matter, I would stop by and pick it up on my way home from work. Thanked her, and hung up. I later arrived at the bank and she was all smiles when she saw me. She pulled out the coin and I was shocked to see it was the SILVER 250th anniversary commemorative! I slid two common quarters across the counter and told her the coin is worth more than these two quarters. She said she had googled the half dollar after our phone call and thought it was worth about $9, but she insisted on selling it to me for only face value. I told her if she called me with more good coins in the future I’d make it worthwhile for her. She said it may be a few months because she had only received the single half dollar so far. But I assured her I would be happy to hear from her. We chatted for a few more minutes and then I left. I’m really happy with the coin and will repay her generosity next time she calls me. HH everyone!
