4 rolls of 'unsearched' pennies last night. Unsearched since 1960 may have been a more accurate description. I recognized the print on the roll paper, 50s and 60s vintage rolls. I want to say skunk, but can't quite. Yes, some dated but common Mercury dimes in fair or g4 and an ef 48 Roosie. Most of the pennies very heavily worn. Very interesting to me that there was about a 1/3 each mix of no mint mark, D mint and S mint coins. I normally see one predominate. This even mix of mintmarks to me implies the origin of the roll was not a vendor doing business primarily in just one area (early mail order vendor back in the days when coins and bills came in the mail?), or perhaps a 50s or 60s era coin shop doing their own rolls? Whatever. Some heavily worn (is there a G2 grade where the date (and everything else) can only be read with a magnifier? If so, I have some) Indian Heads. In 4 rolls, no coin newer than 1948. Predominantly 1940s pennies. A few 43 steel pennies (including one in AU). Best find was a about 7 pennies from 1911 to 1915, but so faint in markings overall. Over 25 S mark pennies. I will look later for Whitman book holes where they may fit. Danced all around it, but no 31S penny. No 1916D dime either. Durn it.
