Last weekend I had picked 80 dollars worth of mixed rolls. some cents, nickels dimes and quarters and didn't find anything of value other than some nice clean quarters, but no pre 64 items. So yesterday I turned in the coins at a bank and got 3 $20 bills back all in crisp shape. Looked at them and they were all 2004 in sequence. Talked with one of the guys that was with me who happened to get some money from the bank and he had the 2 previous serial numbers so I traded 2 of my other $20 from him so i could have a 5 sequence set. Figure I'll keep them for a little while. I'm sure theyre not worth anything over face, but its kinda neat none the less. Then I went to another bank and bought a bag of nickels and found 2 indian head's 1 1930 and 1 1936 and 97 pre 64 nickels. In my head I was like... WOO HOOOO... then I got to searching the net and realized I was sooooo dumb. Its the dimes and up that have silver from pre 64. The nickels aren't worth anymore than the ones made in later years. I am going to try to roll up a bunch of quarters that I don't need when I take back the nickels and see if I have enough to get a bag of quarters.

PS... I always ask the bank if anyone has turned in any silver dollars or any half dollars, but I noticed in a couple of the posts on this thread that mentioned getting the bank to order you some... How does that work. Do I just ask them if they can order me a roll or a bag or what? Do they have a minimum they will order? Do I just tell them that I wish to purchase... x amount? I just don't want to look stupid when I bring it up. Half the tellers look at me like I'm some kind of thief already when I ask to buy a roll of change. When I asked the teller friday if he had any bags of nickels he was like... We have some already rolled up if you want, cuz in the bag they are loose and I said yeah thats what I want. A loose bag. He said ok, then when he got done with my deposit he asked again. You do know these are loose coins right, not rolls. I just smiled and said yeah, thats what I'm looking for. I could almost hear him talking about me after I walked out. Oh well. I bet he doesn't have any indian head nickels either
