If you think about it you really don't see halves in circulation much anymore. So your best bet is to try and find a bank to order for you. This might be hard, but eventually you should find some. Ask your current bank, if they won't try other branches, if they won't try going around bank to bank asking for loose halves and seeing, one if you can score any silver this way, and two if any banks are willing to order boxes. In that case, you are all set and can go ahead an open an account with them to begin ordering boxes. Keep in mind you will need a dump bank as well. But what I would do if I were you is to keep loose half & roll hunting until you find a bank that is willing to work with you and order halves. Eventually you should find one. Also, think of anybody you know that works at a bank, this could be another in for you. I still loose roll hunt on the weekend even though I get boxes during the week. Just another fun thing to do, and if you've read Erin (Aggiecollector's) most recent post you can see that some guys have their best finds just loose hunting, and not even dealing with boxes. This is a fun hobby but don't expect that you will get rich from it....(besides Erin, LOL), and just try to be respectful of the banks that are willing to help you. The greedier people get the more it hurts all of us trying to roll-hunt.

Good luck and welcome to an awesome hobby!

Hi Adam1121, For half-dollars what you want to look for is: 1965-1970 (40% silver)...1970s are hard to find though b/c this was a very low mint year. 1964-& prior (90% silver) varities.... 1974 DDO (double die obverse) No FG error on 1972 D, 1982, 1983, 1989....the FG is on the reverse by the eagles foot, I believe it was the coin designer's initials. NIFC (not intended for circulation) 1987, 2002-present S mint coins (proofs) which sometimes can be silver proofs Anything unusual (I keep the foreign stuff I find) For dollars I can't quite remember how that goes for the type II Ike's something about the islands of the Caribbean being different distances from Florida on the reverse of the coin. Google it and you will find out. There are some silver Ikes out there too, but I think these were all NIFC, just look at the edges to see if you have any silver...if you see white, or dirty black good chance of silver, but if you see the alloy of copper/nickel sandwich you have clad.
