I got my second box of pennies today...been through 17 rolls without anything unusual!! Just a 1969 Canadian cent! Dang it! :headbang:

Hopefully the remaining rolls will bring some luck :rolling:

So a box of pennies, what is that $25??
And you can just go to banks, and ask for a box, and give em' $25, and they'll do it?

Well, if you are only searching for wheats I guess that cuts your work down a bit. But, you still have to go through the copper to find the wheats. In addition, if you are like me and look for other stuff, you still have to go through the zinc ones to find the small/wide AMs etc. I guess I don't see a point to it unless you are planning to melt the copper cents (which is illegal from what I understand) or are just looking for wheat cents.

Went through $60 in nickels this week...Nothing at all..zero.
I guess it's payback for finding that '50 D last week...

Just finished my box of pennies for this weekend...got only 4 wheaties and a 1968 canadian cent. However, I got a nice 1947-S wheat penny....I'm not a grader as such, but I optimistically believe that it is at least a EF....I would have liked to get expert opinions, but my attempts at getting a picture are not working out...still trying to figure out how to take pics of coins!!

Make sure your camera is on a marco setting... :)
Marco is the option of focus, used especially for detail... Get a good angle, usually, what I do is hover over the coins, kinda diagonally (hard to explain) and turn the flash on, and put it under a lamp, this gives me detail, and shows true colors...

I tried something similar before...didn't get a good picture....I'll have to check about the macro setting details in my camera. I have a Nikon Coolpix (no SLR)...hopefully I can get a decent picture...that 1947-S penny was the only good thing in this box!

Good luck to you too, for roll searching. :)

I'm gonna get another box this week, from a different bank (if they give me a box without having an account with them)....the tellers in my bank think I'm a little crazy because I keep taking change from them. And yeah, the tellers in the other branch of my bank where I return all the unwanted change think I'm totally out of my mind :D

Is it just tellers here, or have ya'll also experienced irritated tellers asking you where the heck you are getting all the pennies from?:rolling:

I have a Coolpix too, and I just can't do it (perhaps with better lighting and a tripod, which I haven't tried yet).

However -- my cheap $100 printer also doubles (triples?) as a copier and a scanner, and my scans, particularly of copper coins, are not half-bad.

    Sholom,

That's good..you have at least got an option to do that. Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner!!

I need to figure out some way to use my Coolpix...I experimented a lot but didn't get anywhere yet!! :eek:dd:

    Bank tellers

I have been asked similar questions (I get my boxes of halves and cents from one branch, and return it to another, like you do). This is actually a good idea, because it insures that you don't get the same boxes. One of the tellers asked me if I have found anything really valuable...I told her "no", but I didn't mention that I have found a 1970-D half, and a 1921 penny with a 17 degree disoriented die. Keep doing what you are doing, to take advantage of the last free service the banks offer their customers...there will come the day when they will charge us a fee for buying boxes of coins.

Been a long time since I posted, but in the past week I found

    1950 Jefferson Nickel
    2 silver Warnickels
    2 Mercuries
    11 Silver Roosevelts
1920S Lincoln (filled a hole in my book)
1909VDB (my third one so far).
    100+ wheat cents

    0 2009 Lincoln Cents :(

Just wanted to let people know, if your just not going for the quick silver profit, there are plenty of jems out there to be found.

Now you motivate me to go out and get some boxes... :)
I am motivated to find me some mercs and some wheats :D

Yes, they are curious, but, at least I've found, that once you chat them up, they've been pretty friendly about it. One day I brought in a 2009 Log Cabin, and a bunch of them crowded around to look at it, telling me they had never seen one before. Another day I brought in chocolate coins in the late afternoon -- they totally appreciated that gesture!

One day it might pay off . . . . in the meantime, however, things go in a friendly manner, and they are happy to help.
