You buy thousands of dollars in halves every week and you think they don't know what your doing??

This... last thing you need is tellers looking through the holes and keeping the boxes with enders... yes, I've heard of that happening.

I opened the account on the premise that I would be roll searching to be sure they would be willing to order boxes before I bothered. I say I'm a collector not silver hunter, but they are not dummies. The first thing they ask everytime I come in is 'did you have any luck last week."

It's always the vault manger and some other suit guy alone behind the counter when I come in. Tellers are fired for even swaping coins out of their tray, and my box don't have holes anyway.

Again in this case I don't see the point to the cloak and dagger? The volume you two are doing...if those tellers think you are buying those coins to spend they are Future Darwin Award winners for sure.

It's like a smoker thinking his wife can't smell the smoke when he gets home.

I show my major finds (such as my Barber a couple of weeks ago, or the Frankie proofs before that) to the teller that provides me with boxes.

I didn't say that they don't know what I'm doing, but you'd be surprised how little some know. I can't remember how many times I have been asked why all the dimes or half dollars. This would lead me to beleive they are clueless in regards to US coinage. I simply tell them I collect coins and fill books for my daughter to pay for her education one day. Enough said with that and I'm out the door.

One time someone asked me if I found silver, I told them yeah I remember years ago finding a silver coin or two.

That's nice that you have a relationship like that with a teller. I do have one lady teller that looks out for me and saves me halves when they come in. She's not pulling silver out of her tray for me but will produce "old" looking rolls for me at times which have on occasion produced silver. I simply give her a real nice thank you the next time I see her and a small bag of Godiva chocolates so she continues to look out for me.
Then on the other hand, I have a VT that orders me boxes of halves and he specifically told me he sniped a Frankie and a silver Quarter from his tray the other week. I know enough to not ask for CWR when I go in there but ordering boxes from him has been fine.

Well bought a box of Nickels and $60 in halves today.
With the halves I had no silver and only filled 3 slots in my books. When I went to reroll them I ended up with complete rolls of bicentennials, a complete roll of 72s and one of 73s. The rest were mostly 70s with a few 80s and 90s.
    Hope the Nics are better.

Yep, two Ben's!!!! My first and second. The second picture is a close up of the 68's. They are absolutely pristine!!!
As for that pocket piece, looks as though it is 197x so I can't tell the exact year. What kind of value do you think this holds?

Merc crazy seems to know about the pocket peices.

    -side note-

reading back my last few posts I am left wondering if they came off more confrontational then I intended. i hope not.

Not confrontational but I have a different view obviously. I like to follow the unwritten rule of never mention the word "silver" to a teller. Or maybe it was written down somewhere...lol

Don't dump where you eat...that type of thing.

I didn't even think about what Merc said. Let's say my VT who sniped the Frankie and the Silver Quarter from his tray the other week decides he's going to start to search halves and he orders 4 boxes, 2 for me 2 for him. He looks them over closely because they are Strings boxes with the holes on the top for verfification that all 50 rolls are there. 2 boxes have silver enders and two do not. Which boxes do you think he'll be taking. Yikes!!!! Sure I still might get some silver but he is guaranteed silver.

well guys best day ever with half dollars. I stopped at the credit union to get bowling money and asked if they had and halves. It was 2 minutes to close. The clerk said she had 3.50 and she ask the other teller if she had any and she had none. End of story! Not yet. Head cashier said we have 346.00 in the vault and I almost said not tonight and said what the **** and took them. 1 63 franklin, 1 64 kenndy and 48 - 40% Kennedys, I have not found any silver in months. This will get me looking again.

Nice score RJ! How'd you talk them into selling you a bag off the coin machine?

I don't run around town telling every bank how I am doing. but I am transparent with my pick up bank. it is the same two people every time and they don't have any interest in the silver. they are also higher ranking so would not risk their jobs for some silver.

I guess I see what you saying that if they hear you are having good results they may be tempted to start doing it too. Heck hearing your results is what got me doing it!!

I don't think my results would encourage anyone! LOL

From what you are posting MI is a tuff on the boxes. From Thanksgiving to the New Year I had a terrible 12 box streak with 1 silver. Then things got back to normal and the past month I've been happy. I'm still averaging a little over 2 coins per box. Not bad, not great. I'm waiting for a dream box, just like everyone else on the forum.

I just tell them I pull nicer coins and build albums to sell on ebay. Which is true. I never mention silver, ever, unless they specifically ask, then I'll share some insight. My dump banks know what I do, hard to explain the volume I cash in otherwise.

Interesting discussion here, anybody care to split it off into it's own thread?

PS; the pocket piece, if dateless, is probably worth 40 bucks or so. Shame you can't read the date, if you could get it slabbed problem-free, you're looking at 100+ bucks.

Actually I called in yesterday afternoon to a branch I'd never been to and asked about halves and she told me they wouldn't order but could sell me what they had in the counter but I would have to call in this morning to find out how much because the woman that handles it was out. I called in this morning and they said come and get them. No big hassle. So after I searched those I called another branch and they told me they couldn't sell them and went on to tell me that the coin counter reads a certain number and there is no way to reset the count unless the bag was full. She proceeded to tell me she would call me when it's full but it's only half full and it hasn't been filled for TWO YEARS!!! I (trying to think on the fly) asked her since I collect them, could I go ahead and bring in enough to fill the bag and buy them all. She said "I don't see why not", so I am going in next week with a box of dump to fill the bag.

Been a skunky week for me (mostly BWRs) besides boxes. My halves box this week had 2x 40%s, feels nice to end my dry streak.

I Picked up a box of dimes for the weekend, now that my volume is starting to get up in the 2 box a week range. I should have gotten a 2nd box of nickels but they've been sooooooo dry for me lately.

Luckily I got a Q and a D from the coin return tube, along with another handful of random foreign stuff, otherwise I'd be bummed.

I'll post my full weekly results this weekend!

Whoa... wait, that isn't just a really super worn kennedy?

    How is that worth $40?
