Moderation is key. I've been going through 1 box of pennies and 1 box of nickels today and I've been pacing myself. I still have 20 rolls of nickels to go through and 10 rolls of pennies from these two boxes. I reroll a portion as I go so it takes some time but I do it at a relaxed pace. Since your fingers are raw I would advise to slow down a little and take more of a quality over quantity approach in the future.

2 more boxes today, both skunks.
    $200 of BWR from 2 different banks ($400 total)....skunks.

I've gotten more boxes the last 2 weeks than the previous 4 weeks combined, yet have found a lot less silver. :(

That's definitely true. The biggest problem. Had is that I re used every brink roll I could. You know the ones they spin to close and stuff? I rolled my index finger to open it up. Each roll I had to roll in my index finger to unroll it three full circles. I just need to not do this with the brinks rolls :)

Well I took my last $12 before payday and grabbed two dime rolls and a nickel roll. Skunkaroonie. I am at something like $200 in dimes searched, and I have found no silver. Only silver dimes I find happen to NOT be rolls, go figure. Halves are getting few and far between. However, tonight at the bank one of the tellers said " Jamie took in A LOT of halves today. She'll be back on Monday, you can get them then." Well, 1) I know who this Jamie is, and I know she knows how to spot silver. She was the one with the silver quarter in her tray set aside by itself until I nabbed it. 2) I suspect they go through the rolls before they sell them off. 3) This is my dump bank, so I am kinda iffy on the decision as to whether or not I want to grab them.

Anyways, grats to everyone who found something and here's to hoping a little silver finds its way to me!

I did a little half hunting during lunch yesterday. Once of the nice things about downtown Chicago is that there are a lot of banks within walking distance. Of course, the bad thing is that most of them don't carry halves. Usually I can try to snag a few from teller trays.

BMO Harris bank is the exception. They always have halves, and the tellers seem to be pretty friendly. I was able to score a whole box yesterday from a branch.

    Wound up with 2 40%'s.

Any of you guys have a BMO Harris in your area? Do you have any luck with them? I think it is a new name resulting from Harris bank merging with the Bank of Montreal.

Teller tray is one thing. I really think it is unlikely they would be allowed to sit there and search rolls while at work. In my area they are technically not allowed to pull coins from thier inventory or they could be fired.

Walked into the bank today for a box of dimes (skunk) and a box of nickels (searching now)... I asked if they had any halves and one teller said I have one. I said what year? She responded 1952 I think.

    I'LL TAKE IT!

    Got a 1952-D frankie for .50 :D

    Hi Daship,

I'm NW of you out in Palatine. I have plenty of BMO Harris Banks out here. I don't bank with them, but I do check in a lot of their branches to see if they have any halves occassionally. Haven't really gotten much out of them.

I'm curious, which bank do you use for dumping out here? I've been using TCF but I'm getting really annoyed with them lately. Their counters keep shorting me. I'm thinking about some other banks to use for dumping, maybe Chase, or Harris, or PNC. But I'm not sure if the PNC's around here have counters.

Nice finds. Do you have a Ryedale? That's a lot of penny searching to get that many Indians, unless you stumbled upon a little hoard. Love the Buffs and V-Nickel too, and of course the silver. Nice Score!

I went to a bank to buy pennies today and the teller had two halves in her tray. A clad 1971D and a 1969D 40%. I think it's funny how you can go through many rolls of halves without finding a silver one and then a teller will have just a few halves in their tray and one or more is silver.

Tell me about it! I have only found 5 silver halves in circulation, and all but 1 came from loose halves in a teller tray. One lady only had $1.50 worth, and one was a 67. The other finds here $7, and $14 all lose. The one I found in a roll was a lot of 2 rolls. The first one I opened was solid bicentennial clad and I was like "Well, crap. Not looking well." Then the second roll was all mixed, and had a 67 in it.

    $50 CWR nickels - 1 war

    -edit-

wait, maybe not. I just read that if it does not have a mint mark and it's a '42 it is not silver?

    Is that right??

I don't own a ryedale, but I hope I do get one some day to run all my hand sorted pre 82's through to double check them. (I've got probably 20,000 of them by now) I got three of the indian heads from one box, and the other two were in separate boxes. I figure I've gone through about 70-80,000 pennies. (i'll have to add up all my purchases again soon :p)

searched 2 dime boxes in the last found 9 silvers

yesterday found 8 dimes in the 1st box!!! :D
found 1 dime in the 2nd box and it was a 1947-s in about XF condition
I did decide on a goal before I opened up these 2 boxes and it feels more possible now...
my goal being to get a whole box of silver dimes $250 face value
right now with 30 silver dimes found I'm at 1.2% complete I know I got a ways to go but it doesn't feel as hard or insane as it would have before I opened my 1st box 2 weeks ago...

14 boxes searched to date and 30 silver dimes found 1.2% complete
