Question. If you order a box of halves, search them and find nothing, then order another box of halves, do they get angry if you pay for the second box of halves with the first box of halves, etc etc? Not just halves, but also pennies, dimes, etc.

Good deal there Merc. I should look at some of the student checking at some of the banks around here. I was taking Grad school classes but stopped. Maybe this is incentive to start back up again...haha.

I haven't looked at any credit unions at all yet either, so thanks.

I'm opening an account then with PNC in the next few days.

I'm going to keep the TCF bank for now though, even though they are charging me about $10/month. They are open every day and have branches everywhere around here, so they really are conveinant, especially when I need to dump coins. I can go from 1 to another without seeing the same branch for weeks spreading my dumps out. They are usually open pretty late too, and open on Sundays, that's always nice to be able to dump on Sundays, sometimes during the week I get too busy.

Do some more reading on some of this stuff, you will find plenty of answers and more.

In my experience it is bad etiquitte to dump where you got your coins from. Now if you cashed out your halves or dimes or whatever at another bank, or at least another branch, then you shouldn't have any problems. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. Good luck.

Spent like $100 for a box of nickles but they were all bran new. And then got another $95 in Dimes and nothing. =( Pretty mad about the box since I got once a week.

If you get the SS boxes you should be able to look inside and see if they have been circulated, the boxes have those holes in them. Otherwise you may be stuck if you get Brinks. I would try to let the teller know that you would prefer an 'older' box next time. Of course, had you known you would have done that.

The one time that happened to me I got a box of brand new pennies, immediately I realized they were new (lucky it was SS and could see thru the holes) and asked if they had an 'older' looking box as I was interested in the older ciculated coins specifically, they said no problem and found me another.

No amount of reading will tell me that answer. Every bank is different. I was told I can order halves but it has to be $500 dollars worth. I was merely asking about other peoples experiences.

I am new to CT and thinking of trying this roll searching stuff. So far, I did learn about the buy from one bank, dump at another, and that's about it. Don't have the funds available right now. Just paid off the Christmas Credit Card and next month paying off the Daughter's College Tuition Charges. THEN, I may be ready to invest $1000 per week/(or however long it takes me to go through them) on some halves/quarters....

Live and learn I've always said!

Another Chase box, another skunk with lots of beat up coins with markers from 3 or 4 different searchers. :desk: What I'm doing isn't working at all, so advice from the successful folks is appreciated.

But won't the other banks get angry at you for bringing in $500 dollars worth of halves to cash in every week? lol

Finally went on my road trip down south I have wanted to do for over a month, turned out to be a big disappointment didn't find a thing. Bad luck with halves too, four boxes of halves have been dry, with lots of searchers marks on them  Searched $100 in dimes today found 2 silver rosies and a 1939-S merc and its a beaut too. $400 in quarters found a 1952-S quarter :)

Really? This thread alone is filled with answers, let alone all the various forums with threads scattered throughout the internet dedicated to this very topic. I'm just encouraging you to read more on the topic at hand rather than ask questions that have been asked in this forum over and over again when newbies stumble in, and I don't mean you would have to read the over 1,000 page post here. Not trying to be hard on you just offering you advice.

Now if you are able to find a bank or banks that will do what you orginally asked than more power to you, and I hope you find plenty of silver. Good luck.

Box of Halves - Another SKunk!!! YAY!

6 boxes of skunks in a row (4 halves and 2 dimes)! 8 out of 9!

Good thing about tomorrow is I get my new weekly orders coming in...hopefully this streak will end!

For those just starting...read this and learn. Not all boxes are going to produce 50+. In face most will be like the results above. You have to take the good with the bad!

ChesterCoperPot: There are over 14,000 posts on this thread. Think about it. Besides, a forum is a place to ask questions. Sure, I can sit here for a few months reading every post or I can ask a question and get a quick answer. Sheesh.

Well with responses like that we should be all throwing ourselves in front of you to help you. You come in here and ask a very basic question pertaining to roll searching, and somebody tells you it would help if you read a little more on your own and you get your panties in a bunch. Did you ever stop to think that I was trying to help you so you could read more information on the subject and see that many questions that you will have in the future will probably be answered. Not that it isn't okay to ask any question on this forum, but many of the same questions have been asked again and again. It doesn't hurt to read a little bit anymore, I know tough for a lot of folks these days that want immediate gratification.

Rant off, done talking to newbies that know it all. Good riddance. All ego and attitude.

To be honest I searched and read these forums for over 2 months before I ever posted. Sometimes though it is hard to find specific information by searching thru the forums, so it'd be nice if the new guys could ask a question without getting their heads bit off. Something that may be common knowledge to y'all may have been frustrating someone like me for weeks.

Read the thread, almost everything you'd wanna know about roll searching is in this thread... I read the whole thing. Granted, it took me about a week at an hour a day, but I did it. There's a heck of a lot of nice finds, great tips, and other interesting info just sitting in this thread.

Yes that was the reason. He said a bran new box. Next time I will ask for an older one.
