I know there was a question posted here whether to open a half roll with an ender or sell it on ebay. I was just looking at some completed listings and there seems to be an absurd trend where unsearched rolls (even without enders) are selling for stupid amounts. Has anybody here thought about or actually sold unsearched rolls? Here are a couple that ended today.

Aren't those prices crazy? You could possible get $1500 for a $500 box?!? Also, what do you think about those two different listings from different sellers, yet they have the exact, word for word description?

Is BAC the same thing as BofA? Anyway, no it wasn't. I've only found 3 coins in the last 7 boxes from them. Real skunks lately. However, we always go through horrid boxes to get to the monster boxes, so I'm holding onto hope that soon those boxes will be better. We have 3 coming this week. We'll see.

Some banks will ask if you have an account and some wont. I can't stand the banks that require that I have an account when I don't and I only want a few rolls. A month ago I went to one that I don't have an account at and the teller wouldn't sell me any as it was against policy to sell to non-account holders. I said a teller here sold me some a week ago (which was true) because it was the nice thing to do. He said they shouldn't have! This was too much, I said it is my policy not to have accounts at banks that are (insert 8 letter word that begins with a and ends with s) to me. I then said have a good day and left. It's a good thing I don't live in some rural town with two banks to choose from. Out here there is competition and many institutions that I can either bank or not bank with.

Yes, $7.50 to buy a box of pennies is ludicrous. The finds will most certainly never justify the cost. I wonder if some businesses actually pay that much for boxes of coins. Would it even be worth it to use pennies to make change to begin with??

I don't know if you guys and gals remember, but back in March or June I had won $11 on a lottery ticket, and then as I was being cashed out I noticed a "change for the homeless" box on the counter. There was a silver dime sitting on top of a silver quarter. The manager of the super market was cashing me out and I asked if I put $1.00 in there if I could have that 35 cents. He said sure no prob and the rest was history.

Well tonight I am doing the EXACT same thing and I notice a silver dime in the box. Different manager tonight. I asked if I could make a larger donation and snag that dime, as I needed for my collection. This manager says no right away.

There is nothing worse than KNOWING there is silver 4 inches from you, and not being able to grab it. Not to mention it was probably a year/MM that I don't have yet, as I notced the ridges were fairly worn down. FRIIIIIIICK.

That manager is either a jerk or he wanted that silver dime for himself. Did you tell him you wanted the dime because it is silver? If so this may have led to your undoing. In the future I would of course offer to put in more than I take out in face value and would say I collect coins and there is an interesting dime in that box that I would like for my collection or some such story. Best to avoid using the "s" word altogether in a situation like that imo.

Also, don't feel too bad that one got away. Back in 1995 I remember going to a restaurant that had a donation box with alot of coins. I looked inside of it and could see a silver dime from the 1950s. I wanted it but wasn't able to get it. I guess part of the reason I didn't get it is because I didn't actually think about asking someone if I could buy it to begin with.

I decided to look at how many OZ of AG I have found in boxes, not CWR's...

    Halves; 92.782
    Quarters; 1.808
    Dimes; 48.7302
    Nickels; 11.3726

I think, out of CWR's of halves, I'm over 100oz.

EDIT: 127.2447 oz from CWR for a total of 281.9375 oz. Melt value of $9,635.34. Yipes! Not bad for two years of a hobby.

Searched my first large batch of coin rolls today, which were all packaged pre-2000. But they were from my deceased great uncle, and I'm thinking he MIGHT have gone through and taken out all the silver. Don't know if he did that kind of thing, but wouldn't surprise me.

31 rolls of dimes: 1975 Canada 10 cents
    1 roll of quarters: nada
3 rolls of nickels: 1939 nickel
10 rolls of pennies: 1966 Canada 1 cent

Still quite a few rolls of pennies to go through...

I said "I am a coin collector, and there is an interesting dime in that box that I would like to add to my collection." Just like I did a few months ago. Last time it worked, but it was a different manager. I avoided to "s" word for sure! The cashier, however, spotted the dime and said the silver word to the manager over the phone. Also, I offered to put $1 in the box, and only take out 10 cents. I willing to bet that the manager is going to take that dime for himself. If he doesn't, at least it is HOPEFULLY going to feed a hungry person.

Just opened 7 CWR's of quarters and got a 2009 Canadian Vancouver Olympics Bobsled Quarter. Never seen one before. Pretty coin. Dang it, now I want the whole set...

Those are impressive numbers, this is a very cool hobby. Just think about how much it'll be if silver goes up to $50! Time to cash out and wait till it goes down and buy again.

I'm totally chomping at the bit waiting for the bank to call to make sure they got halves in. It's been 1 week since I have searched any volume of coin.

    Moonshine ....................

Box of halves and box of dimes from yesterday both skunks. I've found a total of 1 40% in my last 4 boxes of halves. Hopefully this next delivery will be better. I order 3 boxes of halves from the same bank and pick up 1 at a time over the course of a week

Found a '63 quarter in the reject tube this week. Also found a Type '72 Ike this week. Sold 40 Ikes on the 'bay for $52 (not counting fees). Not a bad week.

Just got a call from a small local bank that they have some loose halves and large dollar coins so we'll see.

  20. Yesterday I went to a Chase bank close to my job and I ask if they had halfs and they said yes we have lots. So I ask for 150 in rolls I couldn't wait to get to the car and check them but what a bad surprise the rolls had some initials on each one and they were all skunk then I cashed them out and got a box of nikels and got some nice 40,s and 50's no silver

Just called both of my banks that were supposed to each have 2 boxes of halves, neither of them came thruugh this week. What a let down. Going to go and try and find some dimes and maybe even quarters to try and salvage this week.
