By the way, saw your sig, lol... I also wonder why Washington has been on so many coins when he absolutely hated the idea of any president, especially himself, being on a coin. He thought it would be too much an iminitation of monarchy. I find it ironic that on the 200th anniversary of his birth, a man who detested the idea of being depicted on a coin, was "honored" by being placed on the new qaurter, lol...

I believe Ulysses Grant was an alcoholic, Benjamin was never president, nor was Hamilton (I believe he was born in the west indies AMOF. That leaves Lincoln and Jefferson. Any complaints about them?!

 

I have read a great deal on Grant. There are numerous rumors and misconceptions about his habits
depending on which time frame one looks at.
Dueing certain times in his life he abstained. Other times he drank to excess.
During the Vicksburg campaign Lincoln sent a secret service agent primarily to keep an eye on Grant's drinking. Grant took to a boat on the river and several times eluded the SS agent and drank.

 

I read about Jacksons bank busting activity. It seems it was a certain group, the second national bank of America that he was miffed at. He didn't like the people who ran it and thought they had too much influence so he pretty much just quit doing business with them, well, had the government quit doing business with them anyway. I guess the bank didn't last long after that.

Kinda brings a smile to yer face thinking about karma and all those smarmy loan officers you have to deal with doesn't it? heheh

 

It wasn't funny at the time! Jackson's failure to renew the Second Bank's charter pushed the US into the worst depression in US history, up to that point. Hard times tokens were made in during that depression because of the govt's inability to keep enough coinage in circulation. Jackson understood people, but he was clueless when it came to economics!

 

Just finished going through 2 boxes of pennies and 2 boxes of nickels. This is what I found:
Nickels box #1 - 19 pre-1960, 1 Wartime nickel, 1 dateless Buffalo nickel
Nickels box #2 - 11 pre-1960

Pennies box #1 - 1940, 1941, 1946
Pennies box #2 - 1934 x2, 1940, 1941, 1946, 1947D x2, 1952D, 1955D, 1956D, 1957D

Moving on to halves next time I think.

 

I got lucky today....I went to a bank and they had 97 dollars in halves! I went through them and found 3 40% silver kennedys and a 1995 kennedy that seemed to be AU...so I kept that too....lol

 

Just finished searching two boxes of halves and found five 40% Kennedys. Not one of my better weeks.

This was the other day but I found an unopened roll of 1989-D Halves. Not bad.

 

I have been buying rolls of coins on Ebay alot lately. Mostly Indian cents, Buffalo and V- Nickles, and Mercury Dimes. Anyhow, I just recently bought a roll of Indians for $25. So before I got the roll, I thought I was getting a good deal. When the roll showed up, to my surprise, it was full of better dates. About 15 of them were Copper nickle with a few flying eagles. The majority of the rest were from the 1870s. And almost every single coin in the roll had excelent details with full liberty that I would grade as EF. So just about every coin in there, Ive been watching sell on ebay anywhere from $50 to $100. Im so glad I scored the entire roll for only $25(Shipping Included). Id say the best coins from the roll are 2 1872s, one grades EF and lists at $450 in my red book, and the other in also an 1872 which I am sending out to be slabbed because it is without doubt, high end mint state, which lists at $925 in MS 63 in my red book. You should see my Indian collection now, almost complete, missing only 1877 and 1909 s, and soon every coin will be atleast EF(I have to upgrade just a few of the more common dates).
So I wrote to the guy I bought the coins off of, I didnt want to make him feel bad, so I only thanked him for the beautiful coins and told him that I was impressed with the selection of dates. He wrote back to me telling me how happy he was that I was happy with the roll, and told me that he knew nothing about coins, that his grandfather had left him his collection when he passed away. Said hes had them for years, had them since he was just little, and guessed that he had them for about 60 years and never even looked at them. I just wish that I had bought that roll off of him before he had sold off the entire collection in the form of rolls. I bought his last roll.

 

Drooling...That's incredible. If you can send some of those 1870's in VF/EF grade to me it would really help my EF Indian Set I'm trying to finish. Still missing the 1877 and 1909-S too and I need to improve my earliy years also.

 

While out running erands today i checked the Wells Fargo for half dollers and only came away with 2$ in clad JFK's.Not satisfied i then check with B of A mini-branch located in the Albertsons/Saveon store.
Out of the 22 JFK's (loose) 18 were 65-71 40%,some very nice AU pieces.
It made my day and satisfied my coin habit for today,im posting pics of the nicest ones.:hail:

 

I checked a few other banks today only one had any halfs a total of $ 2.50 but 2 of them were 67's

 

Last night I went through 16 rolls of Kennedy halfs this is what I found.
11- 1964
9- franklins
one roll 2001-d uncirculated
1 2001-p
best nights work in a long time.

 

Just finished searching through two boxes of halves again this week and it resulted in finding 9 more 40% Halves. Better than last weeks results, but still haven't found results like I've seen posted here and on other sights.

bad day

im new to roll serching but obviously i am going thru searced coins cause last night i got $100 in havles no silver or good condition but i found a wierd stamped havle that said MMR and i serched 70 dollars in quarters nothing either then i serched 35 rolls of pennies and got lik 3 wheates no early dates but i got a few BU late 1990s and 2000s. change from the bank was 3 concecutiv serial #s in uncirculated condition from 2002.

I also went through 16 rolls of halfs yesterday. For the first time I got nothing except the usual 1776-1976
Bicentennials. I think I am getting back the same rolls I cashed in.
But the day before I got 2 Franklins, one pretty fair 1964 and nine 40% Kennedys.
Well I got $300 worth to look through today.
Most rolls have XXXX written on them in ink pen. Probably someone's rejects.

 

I RARELY search rolls of coins. I may search cent rolls and nickel rolls maybe 2 or 3x's a year of each. Well, I was sort of bord yesterday afternoon and I did an unorthadox thing, I went to the bank and searched rolls of nickels. I wanted $40 worth, but they claimed that they only had $32 so I took it anyway. Early finds yielded some great results.

And the KING of all coins which made it all worthwhile-a BUFFALO NICKEL. Short stroy before I tell you the date. I find the coin and say "WOW", now my grandparents are visiting from Florida and I show them it and they say, "now I remember this". The coin was well worn, so it took a 10x magnifying glass to see the date. The date was 1915. The last time I found a Buffalo Nickel was when I was 5 and that one was 1920.

Went back for some more nickels yesterday and searched $40 worth. I found nothing good until the last roll. I found a 2004-S Proof Loiusiana Purchase. This is my first Proof coin found from circulation. I think I'm going to start heading to the bank more often.
