Hope everyone had a merry Christmas!

The past 5 days produced the following for me:

Halves: Box 1 - skunk
Box 2 - Skunk
Box 3 - 2 40%ers (in the very last roll), and about 8 nice proofs
$45 in CWR and loose - Skunk

$1000 bad of dimes:
4 Roosies and 1 1942 Merc

Wow, that's amazing.

 

Not that im ranting here or anything, but is it normal that ive searched through $2000 (4 boxes) of half dollars and haven't found a single proof? I've found plenty of silver and oddity coins such as like 5 gold plated ones but not a single proof. Thoughts?

Very normal....proofs are not very common to find in rolls. How much silver have you found?

New to the whole roll hunting thing, was pretty pumped after reading through the 1000 somethin pages of this post...

Went out today to various banks hoping to find something good, mainly so I could show the wife its not a waste of time like she keeps saying it will be...

Got 2 CWR, 5 BWR and 4 singles from the teller tray, and all were skunk unfortunantly...

Think im going to start out a little lighter with pennies or nickels first, maybe some dimes....

The quanity of halves you get for the price makes it harder for me to do a decent amount, specially since the wife is still sceptical and i got to hear a lot of "You spent 70$ on half dollars today".... "well did you even find anything"...

Having trouble getting her to grasp the concept of "im technically NOT spending money, im exchanging money"...

Hopefully ill score some coins and can explain it to her in a way she will understand... She has trouble grasping the big picture though, and I guess I can see why.

 

Picked up 1 box of dimes = skunk
Also picked up $100 BWR dimes since they couldn't sell me a box. The first roll I opened had 4 Roosies. Another roll also had 4 Roosies for a total of 8. I'll take it!
My 3 boxes of halves SHOULD be in tomorrow.

 

Well silver value for 4 boxes (WHich is all ive done in halves is probably around $80.
More of a break down is (from the top of my head, #'s may be off) would be
~8ish 40%ers
~3 90% kennedys
~2 or 3 90% franklins

 

My wife was the same. Now she is the one that pushes for us to go out and roll search. Don't give up hope. Woman love silver as much as we do. She loves finding it and is starting to see the benefits from it.

 

Bank 1 $500 in halves. skunk. Bank 2 $300 in halves. skunk. Bank 3 $60 in halves. skunk. Not my day I guess. But my mother in law bought me these candy coins for christmas. I guess this sweetens up the day.

So in a desperate attempt to get my wife off my back about this new thing I had a stroke of brilliance...

When I was at the coin shop getting a Dansco folder for pennies I got a state quarters folder.... Then stopped by the bank and grabbed 2 rolls of quarters.... I then cleverly had the wife "help" me go through the quarters and start filling in the holes of the cards. After we finished about 20 minutes later I was like "see wasnt that fun searching through the quarters and finding stuff for my collection". She barely finished her yeah it was before she realized I had just won!

So on that note, Going to pick up a box of pennies and any halves lying around tomorrow. Then its to the bank I found in my area to be the dump bank to open an account so I can use their counter for free!!!

Really glad I found this thread tbh, as today was the most fun I have had in a while... hit a few banks in the area looking for halves. Took a bit to actually go in and ask cause I dont like being a bother, but I got over it after the first bank!

Also while stopping by the coin shop today I asked the owner if he knew of anyone else that did roll hunting in the banks in the area and he said he didnt, so hopefully this area doesnt see a lot of traffic! In the 72 dollars in halves I opened today, even though I got skunked there was only one half dollar with a mark like it had been searched. A little sharpy spec in Kennedy's ear.

and a rolls of 1960s that look like they were buried around 1965, wierd

 

This morning, the banks were FINALLY open (lol!) and I took in $995 in halves to the dump bank. Checked the coin return before dumping in my lot, and there was a bit over a dollar in change - including a 1961 silver quarter and a 1964d silver dime <3 YAY!!! Right there, my day was made

Later went and picked up 2 boxes of dimes, 1 each from 2 different banks... although I get the definite feeling that that didn't matter, since I think both boxes came from loomis anyways.

box 1: skunk
box 2: 1x 1964d roosevelt dime, 1x canadian, 20 rolls left to search by the time I had to leave home for work

It was actually pretty darned funny - I was halfway through the box, and nothing at all so far. Then I opened one roll, and saw silver! I went "yes!!" and pulled it out - canadian! Awwww... disappointment Looked back down - RIGHT NEXT TO THE CANADIAN was the dirty rim 1964d Lol... what a tease!

All in all, a good day. (Any day I find a quarter is a good day... lol.)

Also found 2 dimes I am posting in the errors forum for opinions in a little bit. PROBABLY post-mint damage, but I want someone else to take a look too

 

Box of dimes produced two roosies and a canadian. And a box of pennies produced three wheaties, four canadians, a bermuda and a golden 97 lincoln.

I plan to pick up two boxes of halves at the wells that consistently produces tomorrow.
