Well, It's nearly the end of the year, and I have noticed that several of you keep very meticulous records. As i newbie to roll searching who has had more downs then ups so far, I would love to hear how the rest of you faired this year.

I'm going to start a new thread in the hopes that some of you will post your annual results for the rest of us to see. I would be interested to know how much $ you have searched, how much you have found, how many skunks you have suffered through ect.

Please go here to post your YTD results or see others: http://www.cointalk.com/t197118/#post1331760

Please go here if you would like your voice to be heard in starting a seperate Sub-Forum for all things roll searching so we can have more fun subtopics like this:

Not coin roll hunting related, but I thought I would share.

Today is my 7th wedding anniversary; the traditional gift for the 7th is copper. So, here is what I had made for The Wife:

    bracelet.jpg

7 x 1971-S proofs, with all copper links and findings. (The Wife was born in 1971, and her first initial is "S")

She gave me a picture of St. Eligius in a copper frame. And, she gave me a pound of wheat... pennies!

    A very nice anniversary!

Merry Christmas to everyone, and wishing you all a safe and silver-laden New Years!

1 box halves - back in skunk town.

Will be spending a week in Siesta Key, FL in jan. It's a Island town just off of Sarasota. Anybody know if these Rich People towns are hot spots for Silver? I'm staying with family. It's like a Uber nice 2nd home community not a vacation resort town.

Probably pretty dry... the percentage of population that collects coins rises proportionally to wealth. They've already probably got a couple old retired dudes who hit up the banks every week.

At least that's what I've found in wealthy areas.

Went to a bank who was suppose to hold $70 in halves for me. When I got there they had given them to someone else. Kinda made me mad. Not because they gave them away but that there is a poacher in my town :p

But it was probably a good thing because I went back to my favorite bank. As always they were good to me $210 in halves kicked out 9 40%. :) I was happy and returned to the bank with boxes of candy canes. I think I made the tellers day.

Have a Merry Christmas Folks and Happy Searching!

For Christmas, I shall put a silver dime into a roll and deposit it in a bank in Portland, OR while I am here. Good luck finding it if there are any Oregon roll searchers!

Ok, I don't know how to feel about this... Please post your opinions, whatever they are... I have searched 3 bags of half dollars, $1000 each. Counting 90% halves at $10 each and 40% halves at $4 each value (rough estimate), and not counting the numismatic value of any of the coins (some are worth quite a bit more) and also not counting the value of proofs, varieties, errors, or others with a premium I found and kept, here are my results: bag 1: $16 (32 coins) short, $56 silver value found bag 2: $0.50 (1 coin) short, $146 silver value found bag 3: $19 (38 coins) short, $30 silver value foundI am definitely coming out ahead, but I just can't help being upset by the shortages, especially the most recent one - it was a bag sealed by the fed, I believe, not just a coin machine plastic bag like the first two. Also unlike the others, it didn't have a few odd things mixed in to explain the difference... and the first bag was broken open before I got it, even though I didn't realize it until I got home, which easily explains those missing coins. The third bag has no excuse, and I suspect someone at the place it was bagged and sealed dipped their hand in before sealing it up.Anyways, opinions please? What would you do, how would you feel, in my situation? It is absolutely impossible to get boxes around here... it's bags or nothing. Thanks for reading.

When I was getting a weekly delivery of boxes of H's, I would find the occasional roll that was 1 short; after searching, I'd just wrap them up and dump with the same number of short rolls. I replace just the silver I find with clad. Although, one of the last two boxes I searched had a roll that had 4 extra!! I have no idea how a roll of 24 made it through the rolling machines, but there it was...

Of course, in the case of 1 or 2 coins out of whole box, we're talking about half of one percent short. In your case, you're looking at 3-4% short. That's unacceptable, but I don't see anyway to recover the loss; once you've left the bank, you're on your own, and it just wouldn't be practical to actually count the coins before you leave.

If it's a regular pick up, I'd mention it to the bank; not to get reimbursed, but to just apprise them of the situation. Be sure to check the seal on future bags; if you find a problem, inform the bank and maybe you could count that bag out before leaving.

Well, in my experience quarters are the worst, so I'd steer clear of those if I were you. Dimes are also rather low population, averaging 1 silver per $250 box. I'd suggest a box and a half of nickels, or 1 box of nickels and 2 boxes of pennies. Both of these, the desirable coins blend in much better, so there are many more per box, on average. Of course, if you can find a bank with $150 in halves, that would be best of all... Lol!

Finally was able to get through the nickels and cents. Nickel box produced a dateless Buffalo. I kept a '41 and '47 that are in nice shape. I think I am done with nickels for awhile. Just not worth the time for me. The cents box produced 34 wheats. Some of the oldest are: 1917, 1918 x 2, 1923 and 1929 x 2. I am jonesing for silver.
