So I did my second round of Half Dollar box searching today. 2 boxes 500 dollars each.

    First box:

Great box. I had a 64 ender and a Proof ender.

    Totals

    2 1964s
    4 40%ers
    5 Proofs
    1981
    1988
    1991
    1992
    2009

    and 1 Dastardly plated 1971.

The second box was clearly a dump box as there were so many marks on the coins, however I managed to snag 1x1969 and a 2011 and 2003 NIFC.

It was a nice grade, I was surprised by it, I was expecting a 63.

I went ahead and sold it to the coin shop for $285 since they would pay the $65 it cost to get it graded/shipped to/from PCGS.

I searched my two boxes of halves tonight. 2 more Skunks! I did get 4 NIFC's out of the box. 2 x 2004 and 2 x 2005. At some point I'm going to keep track of em all, keep a set for me, and each kid, and start chucking them back.

I did have time to get them back to my local TD banks and guess what....

A few more foreign coins, and 1 shiny 1961 Washington Quarter!

So, the boxes were a bust, but my reject trays included:

    1 x 1968 Kennedy Halve
    4 x Silver Quarters
    2 x Silver Rosie Dimes
    2 x Wheat Pennies

I looked through the foreign coins, and one was a 1899 dime from Ecuador. I have to look up some of the values, but at least 6 of them were older than 1940...so those may be worth something too.

    Good day overall!

I got 2 more boxes for tomorrow then I'm off to OCMD for a 9 days. So, I prolly won't get much action down there based on what I experienced over Memorial Day. I'll be lurking and posting when I get anything!

LOL Ace, you may as well just give up on boxes, and just go around searching reject bins....you're luck kind of reminds me of the luck another roll searcher has on here....we might have to start calling you Erin Jr. Haha...

Chester - I'd rather go back to the monster box of halves, but I'll take the Silver any way I can find it!

Nothing from 100$ in dimes, but the teller had a merc in his tray :smile

    Anyone up for half-year totals?

Merc - go for it brother! Just remember all my luck lately has been in the reject trays and boxes of dimes! Hoping that changes tonight as I'm going to search 2 more boxes of halves before I head out of town. Then it'll be slow going for the next 9 days.

    Half year totals 1/1/11 - 6/30/11

Half year totals (not as good as others, but I'm happy for what I got):

265 silver dimes, out of which 22 are Mercs.

    216 40% halves
    67 '64 halves
    3 Frankies

    48 silver quarters

    SOL (1986) proof half.

Thanks to Bobbeth & Erin for keeping it up, and all the new guys for getting me jealous and search more.

And yes HOTN, he did give it to me for $0.10.

    Inquisitive,

That is a solid haul! Today marks my two year anniversary since I started 2 July's ago. It used to be about the boxes but for the last 6-9 months it has been about the tellers and outside of one amazing box, boxes have been too much trouble down here and I go some weeks without even getting a box. My key has been building a network of tellers that keep an eye out for me. I even had one that would search the machine any time someone brought in halves and pull silver for me but unfortunately (for me) she just got a promotion and is now a loan officer so I lost her, sigh.

Good luck to continued success for you!

    Erin

Thanks (King) Erin. I've given up on boxes of halves in NYC a while ago. I (interesting story) met someone at a bank who said he gets 20 boxes a week! (also met him at a coin show) However, he (for whatever reason) didn't ask his home bank if anyone deposited halves, which (when I met him) had 2 40% a 64 and a frankie, which I got!

    Care to post totals?

    Half Year Totals

I have only been at this since late April or early May.

    90% - 11 all 1964's
    40% - 133
    Roosie - 38
    Merc - 0
    War Nickel - 4

All the halves came from two different lots of CWR I picked up at local banks. The first was 5 rolls ($50) of CWR with 49 - 40%ers. The second was from $346.50 in CWR's for the remaining 84 - 40%ers and the 11 - 90%ers. Someone's neice brought these in and were told to pull out all of the silver before she turned them in. Maybe she pulled all the Frankies and Walkers cuz I scored big time.

I have bought other HD's before but none have ever produced.
