The 1972 Type 2 has some value. You can tell a type 2 because it is missing the islands south of Florida.

I was just guessing if he has $1000 Ikes, he is probably a collector, and I would assume they are searched. I could be wrong. I might shoot him an email and see...

1 Box of Brinks halves coughed up:

    1 40% silver
1 1981 Proof that is pretty beat up on the obverse

    Still better than a skunk!

Went around and hit 12 local banks. 1 box, 45 rolls, and 2 loose. I found a 67 and a 64. One bank said "I don't have any half but I have those big silver dollars. You want some?" ummm, yeah! She gave me 30 Ikes! None of them were silver, but my husband collects them and he was really excited. Plus, the lady got my name and number because she said she has a client who wants to get rid of $400 worth. She said she'd call me they come in.

Oh, and the husband got several rolls and $8 loose on the way home which contained a 68 and a 64.

I'm actually dreading the trip to the bank to dump over $1000 worth of halves. Ugh!

I'd take the Ikes any day, searched or not, and toss 'em on eBay.

I'd have to check with my bank to see which ones are available. I got some Johnson's, but they are accounted for. If your seriously interested, I'll be going to Pittsburgh and Morgantown in mid-late June. Shoot me a PM if you want, maybe we can make a trade.

Any special value for a 1938-D Buffalo? I would say it is in roughly VF-20 shape. I checked the Red Book and does show a slight value increase over the 1938 and 38-S which is confusing since S coins generaly are more valuable than any other mintage...

Also, sorry for noobish question but I found this in the laundry room at my appartment as I was putting my whites in the dryer...not really a "roll find."

1938 was the last year they made the buffalo nickels so a lot of them were saved by collectors thinking they would be more valuable in the future. This of course, makes them less valuable. I would say no added value unless it's in MS condition, which you said it wasn't.

I'd still be happy about it though. It's not everyday you find a buffalo nickel!

There is an RPM variety in the 38 D's, so check for that.

    LOL!

I stopped by my still-favorite-for-now bank, but Mr. Dumpsilver still hasn't returned.

On a hunch, I stopped by another bank -- one where I got a pile of 40%'s once, but that hasn't had any halves in probably close to a year. The teller who usually waves me off was busy with a customer, but another teller said "She has something for you!" So I waited, very patiently, until she finished with her customer and pulled from her drawer...

...a single 1980-P half, thoroughly circulated.

    So, again,

I've never found a buffalo nickel, so I'd be pretty jazzed about finding any, regardless of date or condition.

Today was Friday the 13th. Some chants are just not strong enough to overcome the bad 13th mojo. Repeat this on Monday before you hit the banks again. It's bound to work then!

You missed the part where I was born on a 13th, so it's supposed to be my lucky day. (And it is, of course -- I didn't get run over by a truck.)

Going to start searching rolls. But how do I get rid of them when i'm done with them? I thought of just rolling them back up, but many people here search boxes of coins, and I don't want to roll up 50 rolls a week. What do I do?

I asked my dad to pick up a box of cents for me, he forgot. I forgot it was Friday the 13th. Forgetfulness can be good, unless you like getting skunked :p

When thru one box of halves today (my other bank got rid of 2 boxes I ordered!!!) and also went thru $230 CWR dimes:

    3- 40% halves
    2- silver roosies

Not bad score for the day for me, wish I got to my two other boxes before someone else did...I'll just order them from the other branch, obviously, people don't ask for them there....sigh....

Not bad! How long did you leave your boxes at the bank?
