$50 in hand-rolled cents and the first 2 rolls each had one wheat penny. cool. also I was surprised that the copper/zinc ratio is about 50/50.... will post more finds as they come...

I went into a new bank today to use their free coin counter (worst. counter. EVER. Stupid conveyor belt would dump the coins in a bucket and it would spin several times and maybe a coin would get counted. Took 20 minutes to count $40. I gave up and took the rest of the coins out). Anyway, the guy there said some guy came in and ordered 1 box, then came back and ordered 3 boxes, then came back and ordered $5,000 worth of halves. Methinks someone is finding some good stuff. So I'm going to try ordering from them next time.

The guy who'd been dumping silver halves at My Favorite Bank hasn't been back in the last several weeks. They had only two halves today, both beat-up clads. I did find a pile of foreigns on the counter of the local grocery's CoinStar yesterday, including a bimetallic 2006 5 Rand from South Africa, a 50 euro cent, and... a 1916 Wheat! (G04 at best, but still a cool find.)

Found a 1964 dime in a roll today, as well as a 2009 D. This is the first 2009 dime I've found in circulation. Still haven't found any 2009 nickels.

I've been making it a point to say "I'd love to search these bags!" but so far no one has offered to let me.

OK - I finally finished my box of cents from earlier today and I had a total of 308 WHEATS!!!!!!! In ONE box!!!! Out of the 50 rolls, only 11 were skunks. The roll I found this morning with 33 wasn't even the best. I found another one with 42 wheats!
On top of that, I found another roll's worth of really nice AU/BU coins from 1969-1976. The wheats were mostly 40's and 50's, but there is a decent amount from the teens, 20's and 30's as well. The oldest was a 1910 and the best was a 1915-D in VG. Weird thing is that these were all BWR...

Still have another box, but I think I'll take a break and search through some nickels now.

Jealous as I'm starting a cents album to upgrade my dad's old collection as well as mine.. 1909-date would be cool.. 100 yrs of cents..

1k in Halves, first half search ever.

Not a thing. In fact, the coins were marked, and clearly pre searched. I will stick to dimes I think.

Sorry to hear that!! I enjoy both, halves are less strain on the eyes.. But I've ran into the Sharpie bandit myself a few times! I urge you to try a different bank and enjoy!

Tekno - keep at it. you'll hit those rough patches, but sooner or later you'll hit a jackpot and you'll forget all about the skunks.

As for the sharpie bandit, I used to keep a type set of marked halves. I must've had 8 or 9 distinct roll searchers marks that I would routinely see. I'll have to see if I kept them.
