Funny you should mention dimes and halves...

I just started in on my Roosevelt dimes this weekend. I have quite a few silvers in a tube, but was looking to complete '65 to present.. I did so today, however I have them all seperated by year right now. I will filter through those to pick out the best grades..

I finised my Kennedy halves in about two months, but I am not going to claim victory until I get all the proofs and '70 as well.. I may be waiting a while but it really is fun to fill a hole!

Question about these coins I find in rolls...

I don't clean my coins at all with solvents, but what is everyone's thoughts on a cotton towel water and a little elbow grease to get sme of the grime/gunk off some of these coins.. As you all know roll searching can get nasty quick which made me buy some gloves to search with.. Coins are nasty after a few boxes...

The elbow grease can leave scratches on the coins. I suggest not so much of that. And make sure to do this only on coins that have no value above melt. If you are only cleaning low value coins to fill a hole in an album (or something) then I say go for it.

I hit up a couple of local banks for boxes of dimes and quarters today.
They come in 500 dollars, and I pulled 10 silvers in dimes, and nothing but a proof coin in the quarters.

Using a 100% cotton towel will help, but I can't say it'll be perfect.

I got my first skunk box of dimes today. I'm so disappointed. I had such a good streak going of at least 1 per box. I guess I need to get 2 boxes on Monday to make up for it.

Decided to do a little morning half hunting. Went to 5 banks. No rolls but they all had some loose halves which I always like a total of 20.50 on the day. The very first one I went to had 2.50 one of which was a 1951 Franklin. Made my weekend for sure.

Heck ya! Finding a Franklin would totally make my weekend for sure!! ****, I found my first silver half in circulation on Tuesday (A 1967) and I am still jazzed about it.

Also, in regards to cleaning coins with water and towel: I would suggest using a soft cloth that is designed to clean glasses. My theory is if they don't leave scratches on eye wear, perhaps they won't leave scratches on coinage.

On another side note: I got my first Walking Liberty half dollar Friday! My boss is a numismatist and he has seen my grow in the hobby over the last 6 months or so. I asked if I could trade or work for a Walking Liberty. He brings down a 1944 in AU condition. It is in really nice shape. Some of the finer details are gone, like fingers...but the lines in the drapery and stars from the flag above Liberty's shoulder are there. I am so jazzed. I think the Walking Liberty has to be my favorite Obverse for a coin, followed by the Standing Liberty.

From 1965-1970 half dollars and only half dollars were made with a 40% silver content. Kthxbai.
