Believe it or not it does cost them - that's why a lot of banks refuse to order specific coinage. Ordering coins from the Federal Reserve is not free for the banks. They have to pay the face value of course, but above that they also have to pay for the armored car company to go pick up the coins and then deliver them. Then there is the employees' time spent handling the coins in the bank, counting them, distributing them etc. And when the coins are returned, they have to go through the whole process all over again in reverse. And the pay again to ship the excess coins back to the Fed. It all adds up. If you had to pay 55 cents ( my estimate, it may be more ) for every half dollar, you wouldn't want to order them either.

If the banks had their way they would not use coinage at all. They keep enough on hand to make change and satisfy the needs of their commercial customers, but they get enough to fulfill those needs just from they take in. The absolute last thing in the world they want to do is order more coins.

NICE find, that's a very low mintage cent, just 2.5 mil.Iv'e been searching cent rolls for 3-4 months and starting to get discouraged so it's good to see there are still some gem's to be found.

    Had a good day-

I tried to pick $300 in halves today at the bank. They had to scrounge around just to get $280 worth for me ,but hey I came out pretty good. Under the first layer in the box what do I see but an unopened roll of 2004 P's still with the US mints paper on it ! The ends were perfect rolled tight -I am 100% positive they had not been even opened. So stoked !! Aside from that I found another partial collar ,this one is from 71' but not as nice as my 83' I found 3 days ago. Also found a clad 2001 proof PF62 UC.To top everything else off I paid them with 3 $100 bills & since they only had $280 ,the $20 they gave me back as change was a 2004 Richmond Star note !! So Im not giving up on halves yet-:eek:hya:

    nickle

I got two rolls of nickles to search over lunch, and found a 1942 p wartime nickel. It's the first I've found since I started looking. Not much but I was exited.:thumb:

I actually got mine in Bucyrus, OH over the weekend. Came back to visit my parents (Crestline). The lady said they have more rolls than they know what to do with.

I'll be getting $200 worth next week :)

    Hi All,
Just searched through 8 rolls of halves yesterday and didn't find anything worth keeping. I've had fair luck in the past and haven't had the time until now to continue the hunt. I have 2 boxes on order for this coming weekend. I'll post the results when finished.
