Somebody gave me a 20lb tin can of pennies to look through yesterday. :) :) :) Gonna start on that here pretty soon I hope. Been under their bed for the past few years. Quick look didn't reveal any wheaties or anything but I'm hoping for a few WAMs and a CAM or two.... :D

I'm pretty upset with my boss, he didn't DD my paycheck today, so I was only able to pick up $300 of the $500 I ordered in halves. Did pull a '67 with a black rim amongst dozens upon dozens of coins marked on the edge with a black sharpie. Also pulled an '82 proof.

Gonna cash 'em in later and pick up a box of dimes and nickels.

Since I'm new here, I wanted to pose a question for all the regulars - what is the single best find you've ever made?

Mine goes back about 6 years ago, when I found 55 different Walkers scattered throughout 2 boxes of halves. no dups, and all the keys were there - there was even a '21 showing at the end of a roll!

I'm going to start doing dimes, but I do not know how to do them, have only done halves. How much cash is a box of dimes? Do banks have them on hand or do they have to order? what are the chances of silver? Any help greatly appreciated!

Stopped at 4 banks today = nada on any loose halves/boxes.

But I did go ahead and open an account w/ BOA. I've been to 3 branches in the last week and asked for halves, each time tellers said no, but they could order for me.
So I decided might as well sign-up. For so many other banks it's like pulling teeth. I"m only looking to search 1 box halves/week. 5th 3rd won't even let me search
    Pennies lol. Deuchebags.

Also have a Charter One bank ordering me boxes right now...we'll see how long that goes on until they find out I don't have an account lol.

Oh thats not good, do banks have them on stock or will they have to order? And how do I return them without the 4% charge of coinstar?

Searched through the remaining 2 boxes of halves from my order bank...results:

    No silver
    1 1974 S Proof
    5 NIFC

Yikes! Proof was on an end...I thought to myself, this is gonna be a great box! Yeah...no...

Dimes are 250$ a box. I never order them but I never get more than one per branch either. Picked up a few today with no hassles the pain is dumping then so I prefer the clear wrappers so I can just check edges and not have to break them open. I think the average is 2-4 per box or so

That's up to you to figure out... Most banks will keep at least one spare box around.

I went to several banks today, looking for some rolls of halves. I probably stopped at 10 banks and only 2 had halves, 1 bank had 4 rolls which I bought and were all skunks. Another had a box that they said they couldn't break open, so I guess I'll go back tomorrow and get it since I didn't have that much cash on hand. When I asked for halves at a Capitol One they said they didn't have halves, but they did have the dollar rolls and pulled them out, and I had never asked or seen them with the name of the president on the side, so I decided to buy them. So I ended up getting 3 James K Polk, 1 James Madison, and 1 George Washington, all NF String & Son wrappers. Also I found a Sacajawea US Mint roll. Are any of those rolls worth more than $25? Should I sell them or turn them back in?

    Score!

Met with some very nice tellers today:

    coin 002.jpg

    15 40% halves
    1 90% (64)

    31  silver quarters :D

also 9 two dollar bills, and three Ikes.

Makes up for all the banks that either had no halves, or warned me that they had turned in by dumpers. Silver is too high.

Wow, some tellers handed you a crapton of silver... how do you ask 'em for that stuff?

Anything "interesting", and pull out a red seal. Include halves, etc.

Every week I try to look through $100 of Customer Wrapped dimes from the same bank. I average 1 silver dime per $100. I haven't found a Mercury dime yet though..
