Un-touched brinks box from the bank. Even the teller told me he's had them a while, nobody asks/uses them :\. Tight seal on the fold, can't pull them out in a column, have to rip the paper.

    Moonshine ....................

Never saw those before. I don't think any of my supply banks use Brinks. Can you post a pic of the closed end? Thanks.

So it's an old Brinks box?! How old is old?

Lol I guess I have found silver from brinks if that's what it is. However all the stuff that is labeled "brinks" I haven't found squat.

Two boxes of dimes, only one silver roosie. :( Gonna finish the week with dimes, if things don't get better, I'll let them chill for a bit.

Went to some random banks on my usual loop, all clad, except for my favorite bank.... two rolls of 40%ers for $20. :D

Also found some Ikes, the majority were '72's, but no Type 2's.

    Thanks bobbeth!

Anyway, out $500 halves, are these not worth keeping?

    [1] Nice bicentennial
    [2] 2002-P
    [2] 2002-D
    [1] 2005-D
    [6] 2008-D

    [2] 1972-D with a weak FG

I'd keep all but the bicentennial and the '72.

Keep anything 1970 and older, any 1987, 2001P, and any 2002 and newer. Also keep commems, and proofs. That's about it I think.

Of course, if you wanted to throw the silver back in the mix for the rest of us, that'd be great! Thanks bud! (J/K)

What are commems? and how do you tell if a coin is a proof?

Commemoratives - anything that says half dollar and was issued as a special coin from the mint.

Proofs - mintmark is an S. They have a mirrored finish to them. Google Kennedy proof and you'll see the difference.

Including the 40 40%'ers I found today, I'm almost already back up to $100 face in 40% silver, wow.

Merc, what do you do besides hunt coins? You seem to always have the best luck and the most time to go from bank to bank to bank to bank.... I are somewhat envious.

Still jazzed about the '67 I found yesterday. I hope more to follow!

    Out of curiosity, why 2001-P?

EDIT: Also I was wondering is it rare to find 2008-D halves in rolls?

  15. colligoergosum

colligoergosum I collect, therefore I am

I was going through rolls of halves when I came across three rolls full of really shiny gold and silver Kennedy halves from the 70s, 80s, & 90s. Does anyone know why these halves are gold and silver plated? Are they worth anything more than face? Worth keeping?

I save 'em just for the heck of it. You might be able to find someone willing to pay a premium, but I'd consider it a bit unlikely.

I manage a retail store... I'm just dedicated to roll searching, ya know? I get up early to cash in, pick up on my lunch break, rinse wash repeat.

    So I went through $52 of nickels and found 1940, 1946, 1947, 1954-D, 1956-D, 1957-D, 1958-D, 1963, 1966, 1969-D, 1971, and an offstruck 1981.

That's pretty weak, to be honest. I usually get 20-30 from before '60 with a war nickel too.

Went to the bank and got 2 boxes of dimes, I pulled 8 silver! I have more luck with dimes than anything else.

I know that's what I'm saying that's all I got. I'm shocked I didn't find at least one war nickel.
