I usually search through a box of cents, but I searched through $25 in CWR's today because the bank I went to did not have a box. I was quite pleased with what I found, though, and I may do CWR of cents in the future; here are my finds:

*13 wheats (Oldest was a 1919, but what really caught my eye was a 1932)
    *8 Canadian (including a 1952 George VI)
    *1 Bermudan hog penny
*A 1 Ngwee coin from Zambia
    *A red 1960 Lincoln
*A pretty nice 2010-D shield cent

I was informed by my bank that I'm no longer allowed to have them get boxes of change because I don't have a business account. I guess I get to stick with bags of crws. That they sell back to the fed. I don't know if this means its time for me to find a new bank :/

I go through between $600.00-$1000.00 face value per week. Yes, I have a Ryedale. I have sold 1400 lbs so far on Craigslist and Ebay.

On another note, I bought 5 boxes of Halves:

    Box 1:SKUNK
    Box 2-SKUNK
    Box 3-(2)-40%
    Box 4-SKUNK
    Box 5- SKUNK

It's getting tougher and tougher to pull silver out of boxes in Minnesota.

I live in St. Louis Missouri and i'm going to venture out tomorrow for my first Roll-search! Any advice to give? I work for Bank of America so I am going to go to the branch located in the office building first - see if I can schmooze any good info out of the tellers haha! Second thing, I am guessing my highest chance for 40% or (maybe maybe) 90%'s would be the half dollars and I was thinking about starting with a full box. Am I biting off more than I can chew, do bigger banks in bigger cities have a lower chance of finding anything worth while?
    Thank you in advance,
    David

1982 is when they made the switch from 95% copper to what we use now so anything 82 and earyler should yeild copper

OK, these "searched" rolls were not too bad.

    (2) 1972 DDO's,
    (1) 1972 Proof
    (1) 1981 no FG
    (1) 1972 no FG
..some other goodies...filled some book spots...
    no silver :(

And a question I have for you guys. Several rolls looked to be BU's, at least AU. Many were the same year of full rolls of 1971's, 1972's, 1984's........It's like someone broke open bankrolls, searched, then dumped. WHAT would you guys do with these??? Dump them back?

Well......anything 81 and earlier is copper. For 1982s, you would have to test it.

    I did a box of halves today.....1 40%er and several 2009s

Lincoln cents minted prior to 1983. The composition changed in 1982. The 1982 cents that weigh about 3.1 grams are copper, while those that weigh 2.5 grams are zinc, However, I weigh all the 1983 cents. I feel some copper planchets may have slipped through and been stamped in 1983. Finding one of those if it existed would be a great score. IMHO

Since I search for errors or varieties. I look at all the coins. I have found a really rare 1988 D reverse 89 as well as some more common ones like the 1995 DDO. Of course I look at all the copper and have found a 1972 S Double Date, etc. But since I search and sort them anyway, I just keep the copper. I have several plastic coin tubes. Inside the caps I placed labls I made from printer paper. With a marker I labeled each tube with a year and mint. When the tube fills, I transfer the coins to a paper wrapper. Then in the bank box cents are transferred in. Long term ? Maybe. Never gave it a lot of thought. Because it seems foolish to turn in a coin with 3c of copper in it for 1c. I can always cash them in for face value. So it's like something for this old disabled guy to keep busy at and kind of a small savings account. I hide boxes around so a thief would have to work very hard for say $50 worth of pennies weighing more than 33 pounds. It's fun and maybe someday the ban on melting will be lifted and I can take them to a smelter or sell them on eBay ?
