Four silver Roosevelts in a box today, my best dime box ever. But still no Mercury dimes!

Where do you live? Congrats on the 4 Roosies, that's a solid box.

Trust me, the Mercs are out there.

Congrats Merc on another merc! You have a nose for them. I was thrilled when I found my one (and only) a few weeks back. How many have you found?

I haven't been able to do boxes for several days, so I finally got to the bank:

    Box 1:
18 40%ers and 1 90%er (1964) including 3 Kenders and one Pender. What is a Pender? A 1949 large British Penny on the end. Also in the box was a 1996 $2 coin from Canada.

    Box 2:
    Skunk

Nice to be back in the game...

    Thanks.

here's something odd. After I found a silver Roosie earlier this week and looked it up at coinflation, I realized that my profit (melt minus face) on a silver dime today is MORE than my profit from a 40% Half Dollar when I started roll searching in June 2009 because of the silver run up. Weird huh?

    That's nuts.

Have you sold any of the hundreds of ounces you've found, Bob?

Off to pick up $180 CWR from a Wachovia here in WC, as well as a box of cents... I need some luck!

I'm in Northwest Arkansas. I kid you not, the other day my mom found a Merc on the ground. She works at a school in the older part of town. Recess was pretty profitable!

That's one find I don't think I'll be able to top.

    Those $180 were all skunks.

$110 in customer wrapped halves: Skunk
$10 in customer wrapped pennies: 15.5% copper, three wheats (nothing significant, all 40s and 50s)

I searched through my first box of quarters today and not surprisingly, I found no silver. I did however find one 1986 Canadian, which I kept.

At some point, probably after I get RICH from silver halves, I'm going to buy thousands of dollars worth of quarters and find a silver one in them. Just to say that I found a silver quarter.

You can find about 1 quarter per $1k in quarters you look through. I've found a few.

On my first quarter hunt, I found two silvers in about $300 or so in CWR (1934 and 1951). I just wanted to do a box as a litmus test to see if I find anything in bank-wrapped. Maybe I'll try another box or go back to CWR next time.

    Oh my

Tried to hit a couple of new banks this afternoon, only they weren't actually where I thought they were -- not a bank to be seen in any of the increasingly shady neighborhoods I passed through. So, I cruised back by my favorite.

They were pretty busy, but I managed to get my favorite teller. Unfortunately, she had no halves; neither did any of the other front-line tellers. "Wait," she said, "let me ask the other teller" -- the one who was juggling three lanes of drive-through traffic.

After five or ten minutes of waiting (I stood aside and let her help other customers), she caught that teller's attention, and she said "I have THIRTY dollars' worth. But you don't have to buy them all if you don't want to!" They were in new, crisp wrappers (CWR), but I figured I needed to be a good sport and take what I'd asked for -- I went ahead and bought all three.

Well, the rolls were crisp and clean, but the coins inside were kind of ugly -- dirty, green spots on some of them, and quite a bit of... tarnish, as it turned out.

    Final total:

    4 clad
2 Franklin (NBL -- "no bell lines")
    5 1964
    49 40%'ers

Not a record-setter in this thread, for sure, but definitely a personal best. :D

My husband works at a pet store and two nights ago someone came in and paid for his stuff with a 1922 Peace dollar. Score!
