    Is there a way to obtain change other than through the bank? I want to get half dollars and no one has them anymore.

    Yeah, same thing happened to me today. I order halves from Wells Fargo, they get about 4 boxes a week (I'm not the only one who picks them up there) and I've also gotten cent boxes and dime boxes there. Today, I was at a different branch of Wells Fargo, they didn't have any CWR of halves, so I asked for 10 rolls of dimes. The teller asked me if I had a business account. I said, "No, but I do have an account." She replied that they have to charge for getting change. After I gave her a look of "you've got to be kidding me" and informing her that I pick up change from other Wells Fargos, she said she would do it "just this once" and gave me the 10 rolls (nothing found except a couple of 2009 Ps). Weird!

    Anyway, at other banks today I found 1 BWR and 2 CWR of halves.......1 40%er.

    Nice job on the quarter; from what I've seen and heard, finding silver quarters is one of the most difficult to do

    Just tried roll searching last week for the first time. I found in my first box;
    3 Franklins
    4 40%

    My g/fs sister is a head teller at a bank and found me;
    4 walkers
    1 Franklin
    3 40%

    Got another box today and found 1 walker and 1 40%....also out of $200 of quarters i found 1 1964 quarter.i wish i found out about this sooner

    A box of halves

    4 90%(1945,1963d bu,1964)
    2 40%(1 1965 1 1967)
    And I bought a 1898 barber half,1926s peace,11war nickels,5 silver quarters
    12 silver dimes for 55.00....
    far cheaper than its silver value!

    My bank's counting machine rejects silver - she could have told me that BEFORE I bought the bag from them. Leaves me scratching my head and I feel like I need to get better strategies. Did get a 90% from a teller yesterday though.

    Wife stopped by a small branch near her work and she called me all excited about what she found: $200 in CWR of halves that teller said "had been there forever". Then about $450 in silver dollars!! Figured they were Ike's, not actual silver.......Any way, rushed 45mins to get there.

    Well........it was $20 in halves..........no silver 90% or 40%.............
    and the dollars were mix modern gold dollars and Susan B's...!!!argggg

    My luck over the last few months has sucked big time. It seems that many of my good banks for silver have had a changing of the guard with regards to new tellers and now I'm lucky to see any half dollar, let alone a silver one. The well has completely gone dry and the same rings true for boxes.

    Anyway, today I got 2 boxes and could see 3-40% enders between the 2 boxes. I thought we were in for some good luck. Final tally was 3-40% - only the ones that we could see. Better than we've had recently but certainly a let down when I could see 3.

    Bob,

    Which Wells Fargo said they had to charge you? I have never had ANY bank say I needed a business account or want to charge me.

    Anyway, I have not been posting much as I have not found much since the turn of the year. I headed to a bank to turn in some coins and ran into Bob. We talked about 20 minutes and then I headed out. Bob went to one Capital One and I went to the other for a box. Bob how was your box? Mine was a skunk.

    Did not stop at any banks until I was about to pull into my neighborhood and stopped at the one closest to my house. Surprisingly, (They never have halves) 3 of the tellers all had halves.

    1st teller: $1.50 - 1 1967
    2nd teller: $14.50 - 1 1964 and 11 40%'ers
    3rd teller: $5 - 5 40%'ers

    What the heck? All of the sudden 3 different people turned in halves? That one stop to a bank I can walk to yielded more than my last 25 boxes COMBINED!! lol

    Erin,

    I heard a while ago from a Wachovia floor manager that they would begin charging customers purchasing change...something to do with the Wells Fargo takeover...I don't know when and if that may take effect, but I heard that last summer...

    Erin, that's the kind of day that makes it impossible to quit, isn't it? :)

    My run this afternoon:

    3 banks -- no halves

    Bank 1 (the one where I found proofs a few weeks ago): 3 Ikes, 9 halves, 1 40%. And the teller showed me a 1901-S someone had turned in earlier. She wouldn't sell; I told her I understood.

    Bank 2: maybe half a roll in the teller's tray that I could see were clad. I bought 2 of the 6 or 7 CWR's she had; as always from that bank, skunk.

    Bank 3: the ridiculously overachieving concierge brought me each teller's stack of halves in turn, but they were all clad. I really should open an account there; they've been bending over backwards to accommodate me...
