I just had one Killer Proof Box. Im really confused as to how this happened but im not complaining.

Just opened a box of halves (my wife did actually she has better luck than i do), and it contained 20 S Proofs

in addition it contained a Challenger 2008 S half dollar a 64 and one 66.

What a rush, strange but a rush. Took pics with crackberry so sorry about the quality

    Six boxes this week:
    Skunk
    Skunk
    1 40
    1 40, 1 90
    13 40s
    4 40s
My 40% to 90% ratio is 8 to 1. What is everyone else seeing as far as that ratio goes?? Thanks.

One of the proofs from yesterday's bank run...

This one looks nicer in hand than in this photo -- nice, deep cameo, and the marks aren't too distracting, although it'll certainly never be an unimpaired proof.

I'm going to start another thread to ask about conserving/cleaning before I put it into a holder. I'd like to get that fingerprint off, and I've got both acetone and an ultrasonic cleaner on hand...

On my silver bicentennial proof, a 15 second dip for each side in acetone did wonders as far as getting the fingerprints off, without visibly damaging the luster, frost of devices or mirrors of the fields.

Searched 4 boxes of halves and pulled only 2 40%ers. Box of dimes gave me 1 roos and 1 merc.

Searched 4 rolls of half dollars, 4 rolls of dimes, 5 rolls of nickels, and a change bucket.

Found only 2 x 1941 nickels and a 1985 Roosevelt dime with a strike through (grease) error on the reverse. Overall, it felt like a skunking.

i wouldnt exactly call it roll searching but as we were gettin ready to close the store i work at i helped the lady at service desk move the rolls of coins into the bags. well you can imagine my attention was caught when i noticed 2 rolls with 194x cents on the end. well lets just say when i got home to open them it was a bit more impressive find. 24 of the 100 were wheat cents. mostly 40s and 50s but a 29 was also there. it now makes me wonder how many other wheat cents i handled in the other rolls that didnt have any on the ends.

First box of nickles tonight, no war nickles but I did have some good finds

    1 Beautiful 36 Buff
    2 39's
    1 40
    3 41's

And about another dozen various late 40's\50's dates.

Not sure if this common with nickles since it was my first run through.

Please tell me what ' NIFC ' means. How do you guys afford to buy boxes of halves.
What much does a box of halves cost, $500.00, $750.00 ? Do they come in rolls or just in stacks? Must weigh a lot too.
Okay, one last really dumb question: Can a box of silver dollars( Morgans, Peace, Ikes, and AGE's) be ordered from a bank at face value?
I deal in cent bricks which contain 50 rolls of 50 cents = 2500 cents and weigh about
    12-14 lbs I believe.-------------------Thanks, zeke.[IMG]

NIFC Not issued for circulation. It's not like we're keeping all of the halves zeke. A box is $500. After you go through it and pull out the silver, you bring the rest back to another bank. Your bank might be able to order them for you at face value. I've got a great local bank that doesn't care, but I've heard some banks are hesitant to order boxes. Hope this helps!

Yes it does. Thanks for the great response. It's6:48 am and I've been up all night reading the posts and converting my Roosevelt 46-date intercept album to a 2x2 album. I like it much better. I'm seriously thinking about going after some halves.
I'm afraid, though, that I'll keep too many that aren't silver because they look nice. I really like Ikes. I have to start a folder.
Thanks again Johnnyflesh, you smokin' polar bear you, I think that's what your avatar is. That's one ugly bear, LOL.. zeke

Had one more box left to open was even better than the last.

    27 S Proofs
    2 64's
    2 68's

I am not certain as to why i got so many proofs? Maybe someone dumped what was in there collection, or maybe the mint dumped what it had left over? I have no idea, but its awesome.

So Merc Crazy acetone will clean up a proof without damaging it?

    Insane proof numbers. Congrats.

Yeah, I think a quick dip in acetone should be alright, that was the only time I did it. You can very faintly still see one old fingerprint that I'm guessing is etched into the metal over time. Other than that, the fresher fingerprints are gone. Can't hurt to try it on yours with a dupe date.

Interesting. I definitely check the edges for cladding after I check the dates, but I haven't seen any of those yet. Are there any known from 1970?

Also, are there any full copper 1983 pennies? If so, how do you detect them?

1970 was the last date of the 40% composition. As for if there are copper clad 1970's, I doubt it, as they were never released for circulation, and therefore, were scrutinized more before they left the mint.

There are a few known 1983 copper cents, yes. The easiest way to tell is either by weight, or the sound check. Zinc thuds, copper rings.

  21. I'm really happy. I got a box of pennies the other day, and it had 20 wheaties, including a 1943 steel and a 1914 near MS-60.
