    yesterdays finds

I went to my local small town bank yesterday and bought 5 rolls of halves. All they had.
so I went through 3 rolls that either were searched already or nothing the 4th roll same looking at edges for silver is all.
So I come home and start to go through them for kicks and giggles and find a 1967 awesome coin that looks like either all copper or at least dif . I wonder if some one searched as I did and missed it as well. So new to this I fig Proof? But read here that there were no proofs in the late 60's . So why would this one be so shinny good looking and not silver on the edge?

Also the 5th roll got me my first 3 64's Yea!!! and like 6 or 7 40% I have been lucky lately.

Okay you guys don't laugh, aw well go ahead. LMC searching through a box yesterday and '' VIOLA " a nice bright 1966. It's just after looking through thousands and finding this one gives me hope for something big coming that right around maybe the next roll. The scan makes it look much worse than it really looks(????). Try as hard as I can, I just cannot get realistic color and luster from scfanning coins. Even tilting this one doesn't improve results very much. 3hours shot on this one. zeke

Just finished a $500 "box" of Brinks wrapped halves from the bank.

First, I was informed that Brinks ships halves in $1000 boxes, not $500...so this was "put together" from what is actually a $500 quarter box, folded inside out.

While all 50 of my rolls were machine rolled on both ends, I wonder if this might explain the "pre-searched" rolls discussed elsewhere in this thread. Perhaps if brinks is pulling $500 out and making a 'custom' box ANYway, somebody is opening, scanning edges, and closing rolls before they go in?

No clue...probably a wild conspiracy theory. But it beats any other idea I've got. *heh*

    =============

As for the results, not much. A single 40%-er, but it IS an absolutely GORGEOUS 1966. Full luster, and the reverse is heavenly. Obverse is scratched up pretty good, but no wear anywhere I can find. This one MIGHT just go off to ANACS just to satisfy my own curiosity. I think the scratches probably hold it back from making it worth asking my local dealer to submit it to PCGS for me.

Also managed to fill/upgrade a couple spots in the circulated Kennedy half set. Again, nothing spectacular, but the set's for my own enjoyment anyway. :)

A very nice 2008P dropped out of one roll. Not a hugely common find in a circulated roll.

Also put together P and D Bicen. rolls for the daughter, who thinks they're neat, and wanted to keep some. :)

I have to vent. I've been though over $15,000 worth of halves in the past week and half. (lot of time at work, and multiple banks order boxes for me). Here at the results:

    90%-0
    40%-0
    Proofs-0
    NIFC-2
    Mint Errors-1

I don't drop any halves off at banks I buy halves from. I use an entirely different company to dump. I buy from local and big name banks. This losing streak is making want to quit searching...

30 boxes is a lot of coins to go through and find nothing. Even though you're buying and dumping from different banks doens't mean you aren't buying up someone elses dumped coins. I've talked to representatives from Dunbar and Loomis. At loomis the guy told me they were unofficially allowed to pull coins as long as the numbers matched. The dunbar rep told me that no way were they allowed to do that. My guess is that the amount of silver has just taken a dive. Reading posts from aggiecollector and bobbeth support the idea that the amount of silver in circulation right now has dropped way back. The only thing I can see is keep on keeping on. Boxes have sucked for me here in the northeast but lately I've done ok just finding halves.

Just went through $25 box of Lincoln cents from Brinks (through a bank). Nothing too exciting, but did probly find about 6 or 7 wheats mostly common dates, but did find a 1918. Also a strange find was a 1984 Bermuda cent... i've never seen one of those before.

My last box I found maybe a dozen wheats and two 2000 WAM's. Will probably get another box next week.

    Good luck roll searchers!

Found a Merc yesterday in a box with 3 other silver dimes. Love finding those in boxes.

Got more halves this morning, found nothing. I really don't think there's anything around here. Next time I travel out to Harrisburg for a meeting, I'll have to pick some up. I'll probably call in advance and order a few boxes.

Were all of those boxes? If so, you shattered the thread record (held by me) for consecutive skunk boxes. I had 13 in a row. Another poster had 12 in a row, but if your streak is 30, that is just depressing. Were they boxes or did you order bags?

That was my haul back on 10/5

Today, I turned 2 40% rolls from that batch into the following : (Grades, where shown, are my estimate, nothing's slabbed):

    1970-D Half (MS63-65)
    1976-S Silver Mint Set
    1979-S Half, Type I (Filled S) (PR-69...Dealer says it's a 70, I disagree, and he didn't stand on a PR-70 price to be sure)
1979-S Half, Type II (Clear S)
    2001 Mint Set
    2003-S Silver Proof Half
    2004-S Silver Proof Half
    2005-S Silver Proof Half

So...all in all, those 2 rolls filled 9 holes in my Kennedy set, put some 40% and 90% stuff back in the inventory, upgraded a few commons in other sets with MS coins, AND returned about $5 of circulated coins back into my pocket.

Not a bad couple of days. :)

Hey Merc, where are you from. I work in Harrisburg and live about a half hour east of there.
