Not sure of the value in that grade but the RedBook has it at $5.00 in MS-65.
If you haven't already checked, take a look at some others to look for:

Yep....me jealous as well. I've been looking for a merc for 40 years (only doing rolls and bags the last year or so) and still haven't found one. :(

I completely agree. I enjoy the search and I guess I'm like a little kid on Christmas morning.....I have a lot of anticipation as I unwrap a paper roll. I've gotten 3 boxes of dimes with plastic wrappers (no silver) and though I was able to search it extremely quickly, I found it very unsatisfying.

    The above box finished with 1-walker, 4-frankies, 2-90% and 12 40% kennedy's.

The subsequent three boxes were complete skunks.

I went to the bank today and asked for 20 rolls of pennies. I am pleased witht the end result. All together I had 3 different style rolls. Plain orange , red and stripes.

    US wheat pennies:
    1940 -1
    1944 -1
    1945 -2
    1951 -1
    1952 -1
    1957 -2
    1958 -1

    US Pennies
    1970S -1
    1974S -2

    Canidian Penny
    1965- 2
    1973 -1
    1984 -1
    1987 -2
    1941 -1 George VI

I'm going back tomorrow to get more in the orange and red wrapper... The stripes were nothing but canidian.

I started becoming dissatisfied with searching circulated coins for varieties because I too often would find what would have been valuable but it was way too damaged. So now I pay a premium for bank box of BU pre-1982 rolls. That way if I find a variety or error, it should be easier to identify and will be worth a higher premium.

I'm out of town visiting relatives and decided to call a few banks here in town to try to find some halves. I got lucky and was able to get $400 from 3 different banks. What was in them was even better- 2 90%ers, 18 40%ers, and one bi-centenial that had some amazing gold toning. One of the 40%ers was a 69 that was in amazing condition. I'm new to this, but I would guess it would grade around 66-68. But it was very odd looking as well. I'm gonna post some pics ASAP in a new thread because I have a lot of questions about it.

Are you sure that it grades a 66-68? A 1969D half dollar graded MS66 is valued at around $150-$200 and the MS67 jumps to north of $1,300. I'd say it's fairly unlikely that you could find one in circulation...

god i wish i were that lucky last box searched i found one proof bicentennial didn't really have a great mirror reflection tho. Really getting discouraged with halves as 5 boxes delivered 1 40% but then again many coins are marked and i'm hoping to get past those coins and to the good ones : /

That would be pretty cool if all the roll searchers stopped dumping their rejects. If everyone just held onto all of their boxes and save up for a month and go by another box. Eventually the banks would have to start breaking out the good stuff that has been sitting at the bottom of the piles all around the country. I know "dream on" :)

Ok, here's what I do. I have a cupcake pan with 12 places on the corner of my office desk and about 30 paper cups. All cents get sorted by year from 80 to date. 70;s get a cup, 60's, etc.
Next, early coins go in the muffin tin. One cup for really early, one for 30-40 and one for 50's.
If I see something funny, it goes in the tin. Canadians go in the tin, Odd foreign cents go in the tin, etc.

I have a big box to stack stuff in when I want to set up for nickles or dimes. Those I dump pretty quick. I copied the Fivas-Stanton classification chart and look at it before a final search and I check Wexler, the Lincoln Resource and Copper Coin sites before I take on a cup, I even make notes on a clipboard so I won't miss something.

That's how I found the 1988 D DRV=006 in a cup of 1988 coins. I stumbled on it. But I did a lot of searching too. My friend from here said persistence may pay off. I agree, because I was getting discouraged after getting skunked for so much hard work.

    10gary22,

You are extremely organized. I just separate mine by decade and mint mark. I search them for whatever I happen to know about and then store them away until I learn about something else to search them for. Uless of course something jumps up and slaps me in the face , then I investigate right away:)

I know this find is not even close to roll searching but it did come from circulation. I got it back in change from my favorite coffee shop "Seattle's Best Coffee" !

What is that kangayou? And I'm the same way, I could have held numerous errors and not noticed because it didn't stick out to me.

I'm pretty jealous of these half finds...

Being that I am not a currency or notes collector, I do not think there is any premium, but I don't find "Star Notes" in circulation very often. Notice the stars next to the serial numbers that I blocked out ?
