Must be a cleaned coin, not that it was sanitary at all being in a public lavatory. ;)

went to dump a box of halves at a branch that was open on sunday, started to talk to the tellers about coins. One of them showed me an 1887 Morgan they had "deposited" to them, and I told him to keep it for himself, (all the other tellers were jealous), asked him what else he had that was interesting.

He had 6 halves, 4 of them 40%. I told him they could be sold to a local coin shop for about 1.75-2.00, he gave them to me anyway, and I wanted to be nice as well. Ended up trading 4 40% halves for a 5$ red seal with a rip (plus 3$ additional).

Not bad for getting rid of a box of halves.

Also makes you think of the tellers out there that "collect".

So last week I made phone calls to banks in the area looking for halves, and Ikes, and I want to do the same this week. In order to be courteous, do you think I should try some different banks, or should I just call the same ones?

why not start with those you didn't call last week, then circle back to double check with the ones you hit up previously.

I made my first find today! Found a bank that has a lot of halves on stock at all times (so the teller made it seem), and I got 10 rolls for now. The first roll I opened had a 68 D, and I also found a nicely toned 81 P, 2000 P and D, 2003 P, 2009 D, and 4 2010(3 Ds and a P). They were machine rolled too.

Did you call this bank prior to going there? Was this a new bank after last weeks list of banks you checked out?

I called first, and it was a new one. It was the second one I called today too. I've gotten pretty good at calling the banks that have what I'm looking for. Going to go to wachovia to dump, and ask for a box tomorrow I think. Might even go back to the bank I went to today if I can't get a box. We shall see. One of the bicentennials was written on in black sharpie over JFK's bust, could have been from another searcher?

So here's a question for you'll the pundits. What is the chance of getting a mint 1967 quarter with nice pristine clean surfaces and solid full edge definition? I went out to my local King Soopers to pick up a can of chicken broth last evening and got one of these in change. I looked at the coin under mag and it is clean and fresh with sharp edge rims. Not terribly high in value but definitely a keeper for the story.

    Bobbeth-
I've noticed the different reeding on Franklins and Walkers vs Kennedys. I've even noticed it on the dimes i've found. It seems that sometime in 1964 the mint changed the reeding. Maybe it happened in 65 or 66 when they were still minting the 1964 coins?

Working on a state quarter project for some family members, I went through 10 rolls of quarters today. Nothing silver but I did find 4 Bicentennials (I've always had a soft spot for those, so I kept them out for myself) and a good number of the coins I need for my project.

found a 64-P nickel i needed for my circulation set. still no bison nickels at all!

also got a 2006 canadian quarter that looks like a proof. not even sure if they have proof canadian coins but it has a mirror like finish. i guess its not because it sticks to a magnet. still looks nice though!

got a few more shield cents, still looking for the 2009's(other then the P log cabin). i am going to order the special set made of copper on ebay i think.

    Nice finds people (especially Erin).

I'm back from a little over a week of vacation. Had to read this thread to cure my withdrawls (haven't roll searched in 10 days!). Will get back into the swing of things in a day or two.

Hey guys I've just found 2 proof nickels from the 80's in some rolls i was searching. They have the "S" mintmark and everything.

There pretty much worthless, but what a weird find! This is what cherry-picking is about... finding something so damn odd it brings a smile to your face!

Found an uncirculated 1964 D Washington Quarter in a roll of silver. Nothing special to most, but I was very happy. :)

Went back to the bank I went to yesterday after I dumped yesterday's halves at a wachovia and got another 10 rolls. This time I found 2 more 1968 Ds which makes 3 including yesterdays, and a FRANKLIN which unfortunately looks like someone took it, ran it through a coffee grinder and got rid of it. It is covered in gouges, deep scratches, gold colored scratches(the center, or what caused the damage?), it is in horrible shape, and I'll post pictures if you ask, but hey, it's still worth $6 in silver(according to coinflation) right? It is dated 195* can't read the last number at all.

Also found lots of 71, 74, 76 again and a handful of 2010 P and D plus some other nice looking halves.

Wow! People are dumping those 2010 halves? I hope they are not just disposing their castaways from the over priced mint rolls and bags the mint sells... but where else they gonna come from. Mint sets cut up... wild. What sort of condition are the 2010s showing up in?

If the Mint sold bags and special rolls of current year Silver halves to collectors they'd not likely show up in roll searches.

The 2010s have been pretty good, still have that "i'm brand new" look. I've actually been spotting them from looking at the edges when I open up the roll. Just the typical light wear from being thrown around in rolls. Think I should save them all? I wrapped some back up already. I think I have at least 3 or 4 P and D sets so far.
