They are not intended for circulation (NIC). I always hold onto 2002 or newer halves if they are in good shape beacause they are NIC. Hold onto them for sure because down the road they might be worth a decent amount. The 2008s' especially because they have a very low mintage or 1.7 million.

The only problem I see with the NIFC coins is they were never circulated. Those 1.7 million where bought by collectors to hold onto, and most will never see circulation. I just don't see them ever being rare enough to demand much of a premium.

  4. I did four rolls of cents today, nothing too spectacular. No new dates/mint marks (pretty rare actually as I've already found back to 1935!) Maybe an upgrade but I have not checked yet. Found two 1964s with full mint red still, bringing my total up to three 1964s found in as minted condition (and lots in brown).

But...I found a spectacular 1965 Canadian cent! The coin is full red, no real traces of wear. The best Canadian I've found in rolls so far. (I found two other Canadians and one wheat, a 1947)

someone paid with all rolled change when my girl was getting her nails done, and the nail guy sold me the rolls. i only opened 1 roll and found a 1942 wheat, but it has some weird marking going down lincoln. i made out an "A' and a "M", so i am guessing it says america. i bet another coin was placed on top of it and somehow smashed the "america" onto it.

i still wan't to take a closer look and will get picture when i found my camera charger!

so probably nothing, but still worth taking a look...

I went and picked up $225 worth of the rolled dollar coins. They actually have $1500 worth and not $1000 like I thought. Anyway, I've opened the rolls and it's a mix of Susan B Anthony, Sacagawea and presidential dollars (various ones).

I really have no clue what I'm looking at/for now so I guess I'll have to do some web surfing to see if there are rare ones or errors worth looking for.

I did see 1 sacagawea that looked totally different than all the others because it didn't have a date on it anywhere that I could find.

Look for the 1979-P Susan B's with a wide rim that is close to the date.

Look around the edge of the Sacagawea Dollar coin for the date , mint mark & motto.

    Hello gang,

I was searching a box of halves yesterday and noticed that the box had many, many Gem BU 1995 halves in it---nothing so special other than I thought it very unusual--so I was setting them aside.

I decided to give them a closer inspection and noticed that one of them had a die crack running from Kennedy's adam's apple (the very bottom left corner of the bust) to the rim. I put the loupe on it to make sure it wasn't a scratch, and sure enough it was definitely a die crack.

So, I looked at the rest of the group (there were a total of 120 of these in the box), and to my amazement I found a PROGRESSION of the crack, from where it started out very small at the bust and grew progressively worse over a series of 5 coins until it reached the rim. I have never seen a case where a series of coins (a quintuplet in this case) could be verified.

I think I'll post this to the error coin thread and get some opinions about what I should do with these coins---I have never run across this in all of my years of coin collecting!

That is a neat find, it may be worthwhile to manufacture a display with the progress of the die crack noted. I would suppose that a die crack would proceed fairly quickly, because of the tonnage used in the coining process. It would be a nice presentation at a coin club or a coin show.

I have a bunch of those.....they're all 1995 P. I love the progression of the die crack. It is very interesting.

    Bobbeth,

Do you have coins with the smaller cracks or are all of yours fully cracked to the rim?

    Thanks!

Ordering a Garrett Pro Pinpointer to use with my ACE 250 Detector too so I can start Metal Detecting more efficently. :)

160 in customer rolled halves: zero. Then as I am loading the halves in the coin counter I see a odd ball with dirty geenish toning. Turns out I missed a 40%er because I only look at the edges when I search and this 40%er blended in to the point that I didn't notice. So 160 in CRH's: 1 (very dirty) 40%er.
