I posted it in error coins too. I wonder if this is the coin the die cracked on ? The machine doubling seems more to the north side. My thought was the die may have cracked as it was pressing this coin and created the doubling ?

    A few halves

Son's baseball game was rained out so we went to a few banks this morning to look for halves.

    1 1963
    3 1964
    27 40%er's

Also searched 3 boxes this week but only found 1 40%er. Boxes been dead a while for me it seems other than a few.

Man, that is a great way to spend a day with your boy ! Bet he was absolutely thrilled ?

Absolutely! He had a lot of fum opening the rolls and was having a lot of fun flirting with the tellers lol! The last bank is where he found the Franklin in a roll and of course he was yelling with excitement as we don't find those too often. Then he has to make mom and sis jealous when he gets home with the "Guess what I found" stories.

Take a half day with just me and my boy anytime I can get it.)

Heard that. My youngest is 35, but I'll still take a day at the auction or whatever just to spend time with him. LOL Guess you never stop being DAD ?

so my girlfriend and I have gone threw 4 and a half boxes of half dollars and have found no silver. Today my girlfriend and I decided to go to a local bank about 10 miles from our house to pick up $7.50 in half dollars. We were so surprised to see that 5 of them were 1964's and 5 of them were 40% silver. :) I hope we find silver in the rest of this box, but if not we are picking up two more boxes on Tuesday. So far it seems to me like picking up loose half's at banks work out better. Also where should I be looking for double dies on the half dollars?

Went to the bank and got a roll of half dollars, in place of one of the 50 centers was a 1999 Anthony dollar! Made 50 cents (at least) on the trip! Are 99s something to do cartwheels over?

Well, that puts you over 1000 doesn't it?

I have completely ran out of luck stopping at banks. I don't know where you are going, but you seem to be sniffing them out quite well. Recently, when I stop at a bank, they don't have any halves or have only a dollar or two, with no silver. I'm getting modest finds in boxes, but nothing at random stops....

    Boxes

Bob, I want some of your luck with boxes lately! I think you have had a box over 50 and another over 30 but I have been down on the "box" luck. Seriously wondering if box searching is becoming extinct at least in this area as the finds are really dropping off... Hope not but wondering.

I found this in a roll several years ago. It seems to have strong doubling on the In God We Trust, and the L in Liberty, but the reverse is normal. Any thoughts on what happened here, or its value ?

    Box of Nickels

I don't do Nickels too often, but did a box. Here are my findings:

    0 from the 30s
    3 from the 40s (40, 41, 49, no silver)
    13 from the 50s

4 or 5 others that are mre recent that were AU/MS.

AND, this beauty . Only the 2nd buffalo I've ever found. I'll call it a F-15 grade (please correct me if you think I'm wrong as I'm a novice at grading). Funny, since finding these are so unusual for me, I was actually more excited than when I find a silver half, lol.

I would call it more like VF, maybe even XF---you rarely see circulated Buffaloes with dates that are that clear, plus the details in the shoulder/hump, plus the very clear "Five Cents" and clear mint mark---and the legends are not worn into the rim. Great find, for sure---

I went through a whole box of nickels today and only came up with:

    1 1942
    2 1950's
    6 1960's

The rest were 70's to 2000's
