Thanks! I keep all 1956 and earlier coins. I sort them by year/mint. Since starting this, I have found a 1944 Henning. Hopefully I’ll find more in the other years.

What fun! Still not quite enough to coax me into international travel, though.

You sure?? I will need a replacement for summer of next year. Hate to think these bags of coins might forever go unsearched…

Not sure if that's the most common one but 1944 is definitely the most obvious to spot, with its lack of a mintmark it should have and not being of the silver alloy it should be for that year.

From searching 15,000 dimes. I found 30 silver dimes. 1:500 ratio.

My latest nickel box produced a few fun finds and are shown below. Not pictured was a 2009-D. The early decade count revealed five from the 1940s and six from the 1950s.

That’s a lot of dimes to go through. But quite a tidy haul. Congratulations

Cheers! :) To be honest, I just pour them a handful at a time into my hands, jiggle back and forth, listen for the silver, and pull it out. The coins come loose, so I don’t have to cut open any rolls. It goes pretty fast!

I know what you said before, but if you ever leave this area, shoot me a PM about where it is. You are consistently one of the luckiest crhers that I have ever seen.

From searching 996 nickels. Too bad someone polished that 1914-D buffalo nickel!

    Nickel box #15:
Most exciting thing I found was a 1945-S silver war nickel. Already had one, but this one was in much better condition than the one I found earlier, so upgrade for the album!
    Other noteworthy finds:
    1951-S semi-key date
1939 (no not a Henning nickel; I checked!)
    2009-D

Other pre-60's not listed above: not keeping them but thought these are worth mentioning:
    1940
    1941
    1952
    1953-D
    1954
    1954-D x2
    1957
    1958
    1958-D x4

    Hunt continues!

Don't usually do another box so soon after a previous one, but glad I did...

    Nickel box #16:

Hole fillers: 1945-D silver war nickel
    1949-S semi-key date

    Highlights:
1930 buffalo nickel (not got one of these in a while!)
    2003-S proof nickel
    1943-P silver war nickel
    2009-D
2009-P (first spare I ever found of this)
Foreign coins: 1993 Canada 5 cent, 2019 Panama 5 centavos (strictly speaking, 5/100 Balboa)

    Semi-keys:
    1939, 1950 (sadly no D! so close...)

    Other pre 1960s:
    1940 x2
    1940-S
    1941
    1941-D
    1941-S x2
    1946
    1946-D
    1948-D
    1949
    1954 x2
    1954-S
    1955-D
    1956-D x3
    1957-D
    1958-D
    1959-D x2

Pretty amazing box! A lot of finds happened to be from the first 10 rolls too. Definitely feels like this is still worth doing!

Small little P.S. here but I've heard rumors that 2024 might be a low mintage year for nickels (I've definitely not seen many, despite the year being almost over) so if I ever come across any I'll start saving them too.

I bought a 2024-P and a 2024-D from someone on eBay to update the album; it was quite late in the year (about May) before anyone had any available. Since then I've only seen a single 2024-D in the boxes I've hunted; I didn't save it because I didn't think of it as worth saving at the time. Now from what I'm hearing this year is probably a low mintage year for nickels and dimes, so I will save them if I do find them. I work as a cashier at a fairly busy retail location and have not seen many 2024 nickels and dimes yet, and it took quite a while for pennies and quarters to show up (I rarely see any newer than Mary Walker, the 3rd AWQ to come out this year. Celia Cruz is quite rare and I've not even seen Zitkala-Sa yet in circulation, even though they were released about a month ago. And I live/work only about 10 miles from the Denver Mint.). 2024 seems to be a relatively lower mintage year for circulation issue coins for some reason.

A handful of halves and dollars... nothing of interest.

I got the first "save your 2024 nickels, they're worth BIG MONEY" article in Google News today.

Current mintage figures are just under 70 million for P and D combined. That's compared to over 1.4 BILLION last year. I guess they could burn out the presses during the remainder of the month, but it's still going to be very low - probably lower than 2009, which was the lowest since the 1950s. Still tens of times higher than the 1950-D, though, and we see how that panned out (trading at sky-high prices early on, then stalled for decades).
