    Kennedy broadstrike found

Well searching thousands of rolls of halfs for the past year has finally paid off (again). Not in money but in
getting this wonderful coin for fifty cents! (see avatar) You should see the paper roll it came out of.
Someone had to jam it in a few coins from the end of the roll. There was a big bulge sricking up from the other coins and the roll was dimpled. Someone had to force the oversize coin in and pack a few coins in afterwards to hold it. It was twisted sideways too so it could fit.
WHY, why, why, did this coin remain in circulation since 1984 ?????

    stretched Ls in dollar

Bad pic I know. But in my avatar maybe you can see how the minting process stretched out both Ls in the word dollar. The LL in dollar is longer than normal.

    That's a cool find Victor.

Thanks. It's what keeps me going you know. And it's also what keeps me favoring the half dollar rolls to search. Finding 40% silver once in a while is a nice bonus, but this one was the jackpot!

    Hello... and help.

I am relatively new to collecting (this is my first post, though I've learned much from everyone here by lurking the last few weeks... thanks!)

Today I went through $300 of bankrolled halfs (much to my dismay, only one pre '71!) but of interest... I began to set aside some astounding looking 96 Ds. I tell you, these are not AUs... these must be mint state, as in mint roll type quality/the reeding prickly to the touch. Mind you there were other 96 Ds, but all that had this quality were set aside, with a total of maybe 27. Ultimately... this is not what is strange. Seven of these share the almost exact same grease die fill.

I don't know if this is something significant/important or not... but darn sure got my blood pumping. I've attempted to take some pictures of the seven which I don't believe are very good, I will try to post them tomorrow... I just thought I'd squawk out for any assistance in the meantime

    Thanks in advance!~

Here are a few not so great pictures of the halves I mentioned above. A couple (and a few others without this "error") have a hazy, powdery "dust" on them.

The funky spot (strike through???) runs from in front of Kennedys nose, towards and between the L and I, then down past the IN.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Lincoln cent finds

Local banks are out of half dollars. I guess I got em all. So I got 4 rolls of Adams dollars (unopened).
The bank said they have 1,800 rolls of Adams dollars on hand!
Anyway I go nuts without something to search. Got 20 rolls of cents.
    Found today:
    1927, two 1939, 1941, 1941S, 1944, 1955, 1955D, 1960D sm. date and a 1970S.

I've got sitting in front of me my latest finds. 1964, 1967, 1968-D, and 1969-D half dollars that I just found. I found the 1964 last week and the others just today. I'd estimate that I've gone through about 50 rolls (1000 coins) of halves since I began a searching few weeks ago, and I'm finally getting some results!

    small bank gives big

In keeping to my strategy I went to a small bank in Auburn, MA to get rolls of half dollars. The teller said they had none but then asked the other teller. She said they had 2 rolls in the vault. So here is what I got for my $20.00- The US Mint has 2001 and 2007 rolls for sale. They are $32.95 plus shipping.
You can't get 2005 P&D rolls anymore from the mint.
So I figure I came out ahead by at least $18.00 today. The rolls are unopened.

Victor, that's a very unusual find for the obvious reason. But, I can't believe a bank in MA would have D-Mintmark rolls of coins. How very strange. I've never ever seen that.

Nothing strange about it. Fact is, someone ordered 2 rolls directly from the mint, then someone (probably a family member borrowing them) took them to the bank for $20, unopened. We can order whichever mintmark we choose directly from the mint, so there is nothing regional about that.

My question is, what else did they have in the vault. I'd go back and ask if they have any other coins in the vault with unique wrappers. Maybe they have the mint wrapped rolls of Sacagawea dollars too.

Well, I still maintain that it is "strange"!! But, yes, go back. It would be a great opportunity to get Uncirc D-Mints for you at face value. Any denomination.

Now that's a good point. I'm not a customer there and don't have an account.
But they sure weren't busy. I was the only one in the bank. Maybe worth a shot.
Yes probably some unknowing family member cashed in.

    Vermont roll search

Last week I was on vacation up at Lake George, NY. Took the ferry boat from Ticonderoga over to Vermont.
Stopped south of Woodstock, VT at a small bank in a small town with an indian name.
They had 14 rolls of halfs and I bought them all. From 14 rolls I found 23 nice coins dated 1965 to 1969.
One was in mint condition. I'm guessing that 1968-D would grade MS-64 at least.
Many later 1981 to 1984 halfs were excellent.
This supports the theory of small town, small bank and buy them out.

    Did I just get lucky?

Went to the bank today to deposit some money and asked for a roll of halves. No silver.

    But......

I got 3 BU++ 2006-P and 2 BU++ 2006-D halves... My 2008 red book says they were not released to the public.

What gives? It's also very, very strange for me to get P mintmark of anything - heck I'm still looking for a couple of P state quarters for my circulated set.

So did I get lucky? Or has the mint started to release these coins? Thanks

As was previously explained, people take these rolls they buy from the mint nd sell them to the banks all the time. It really is a common occurrence.
