I'd guess that collectors or dealers buy sets, pull out the ones that look like they'll make a high grade, and spend the rest. I don't think there's a market for low-quality proof dollars at more than face value. The same is probably true for halves and quarters. Dimes, nickels and cents have a low enough face value that they may just get dumped in a jar, the same as their non-proof counterparts.

Got this gem today. And, of course, my wife found it. I told her she was off by two years, but getting warmer. 31557.jpeg 31558.jpeg

Interesting roll. Got 5 of these rolls from my bank. They are MWR.all of them appear to be solid 2005 P Buffalo nickels, mostly UNC. And most have edge toning. Gotta wonder where they were for 15 years.

Look for the speared bison and I think they have a 3 leg just like the ones from the 1930's.

A handful of small dollars and halves... nothing of interest.

Well the search produced a few keepers. The highlights besides the 1943 P war nickel were a first year Jefferson and a no date Buffalo. The early decade count on the Jefferson's besides the 1938 were three from the 1940's and seven from the 1950s. My bank just called and told me they have some CWR's. I am out of here.......

$200 nickels and $25 pennies. All the buffalo nickels came from one box. 6 of them have barely-readable dates and the rest are all dateless. Also found my first 1939 doubled Monticello. The 1914 penny seems to be around VF or XF.

My latest trip to the bank was a good news bad news event. The bad news - a full box of 2021 pennies.

    IMG_5048.JPG

That makes three boxes of 2021 sitting on a closest shelf along with a full box of 2021 nickels.

The good news - $225.50 of CWR rolls. 15 rolls of quarters, 10 rolls of dimes, 7 rolls of nickles, and 23 rolls of pennies. Wish me luck!

Actually I wait until the first of the year to determine if there were any anomalies worth looking into. If there was nothing significant then I too take the screw it approach and swap the boxes at the bank. Those at the bank don’t mind the swap especially when they received a holiday present from me a few weeks earlier!

Finished off 2 boxes of halves and 2 boxes of quarters today. Nothing great but still not bad.

Fingers crossed I find something awesome. I have my 1,000,000th cent in a 2x2. Gonna put my 2,000,000th one in a flip as well :)

Got a "goosebumps find" this morning... in a penny roll! Any of y'all have any idea how I can figure out the date on this gem? Nic-A-Date? Microscope? Cleaning? 20211023_103743.jpg 20211023_103855.jpg

Lucky you but to me its pretty roached, there's nothing that can be done really.

I'd start by soaking it in water for a while, and if that does nothing, maybe acetone. But I think that's corrosion, and it may be past help. A soak in white vinegar gives a more uniform appearance than Nic-a-Date, but there may be nothing there to reveal.

Try shining a flashlight across it at a very shallow angle to pick up any remaining relief.

Tons of pennies with die cracks. Wheaties I sort by year and put in separate bags so I really don’t know what I have yet there. I probably only have like 4 or 5 1910’s and earlier. For nickels I’ve found 30’s 40’s with 4 1943 war nickels being part of that and 50’s. And a proof 1978S nickelI’m in search of a Henning nickel. I’ve also found 2 buffalo nickels. The date is barely illegible only on one and it’s 1925. Also found a 1899 V nickel from a Loomis roll I got from the bank. For quarters I’ve found a couple silver, 1 1983S proof 2 state proofs West Virginia and Missouri. I have a couple strike through and feeder finger damage on a couple state quarters I found that I plan to send in to have graded and certified as errors. Also a 1943 S war nickel in mint state condition with a large die crack on the reverse going from the edge into the top of Monticello stoping in the middle. I don’t search dimes but I did find a silver 1956 in a bad or foreign change return slot at a change counter in a bank. It’s amazing this stuffs still kicking around.

Oh on the quarters. I look for the errors on the state and National park quarters. I keep a pair if there common ones and just throw the others back in. I have at least 5 or 6 that I haven’t been able to find an error just like it. Most the pairs I have are the common ones out there with die chips or cracks.
