After dragging my feet for months I finally ordered $500 in halves from my bank. It turns out they give them out in a clear plastic bag from their cash room. I wasn't too optimistic but I found 3 40% (1966, 1967, 1967) and 1 90% (1964). I also got $5.25 in quarters that must have slipped through the machine and a $2 Canadian coin. First time I have ever seen one of those. Thanks everyone for keeping me motivated!

Looks like you finally had a good day! At least soembody has......I'm having such a dry spell i'm abt ready to take this $$ and just buy a few nice coins for my collection. Unfortunately, most local dealers don't carry what I am looking for.

As stated before I could care less if he decided not to be my friend. I see an opportunity I seize it and move along.
Plus I am well known in the community.
Plus this "friend" who we shall call "John" is a pothead of 20 years. constant smoker, constantly high. Hes fried out and rather quite slow, best part is if he did figure out that I flipped them he would forget within a week and go back to getting silver coins for me.
gotta love california, potheads are easy to manipulate, IMHO.

You sound like quite the user, if you continually "seize it and move along" you could find yourself alone on moving day.

I know an elderly man that was misguided into selling off hundreds of pre 1967 Canadian Half dollars to one of his, let's say for the sake of this tread "friend" , The old man is still spiteful to this day...

And as for your statement about potheads, You should know that many great minds have used marijuana and people twenty folds smarter then you still do.

Went through a box of nickles this weekend ($100) and found the following.

    1-Singapore 20c
    1-Republic of Somalia 5 shillings
    2-Canadian
2-off-strikes (1993,1999 neither are very far off-struck but it is noticeable)
    3-1960
    1-1959
    3-1958
    2-1957
    3-1954
    3-1953
    1-1952
    1-1946
    1-1941

This was my first time to go through some rolls and i had fun. I like the anticipation that you never know what you can find next. For my first time i think i did pretty good and cant wait to get more.

Erin, you might remember not too many months back I got almost two boxes of String and Sons halves that were all UNC 1998-D Not very exciting in my opinion. However, people for some reason were buying them on Ebay for $14/roll. This worked fine until one guy ordered five rolls and didn't pay (i.e. he claimed not to have received them and won the arbitration from PayPal...don't even get me started on that one), so I made just about enough on all of them to make up for the money lost to the rip off artist and crooked PayPal arbitration system.
Anyhow, back to the original point - you will occasionally see huge clusters of UNC coins in halves since they don't seem to circulate much - save amongst us roll searchers.

Yesterday, found only $6 face in halves, but did get a '09P and a '65; a great percentage of keepers, if I could only have found more coin.

holy crap you guys find some amazing stuff. This thread might make me start going to my local bank....

I used to cashier at a supermarket and a guy handed me a $5 silver certificate that i immediately told my boss about and she let me swap a 5 in my wallet for it :) and i would find random 60's silver but the $5 bill is my biggest find!

Went to the bank to turn back in some nickels and cents and pick up some more cents (they won't give out halves...). As she was dumping my change into the machine (so much easier than rolling!) I saw a silver edged quarter in her change tray (Where all the change is stacked up in increments) and asked if I could get that one, 1942 silver quarter! We'll see what the cents have.
