Long time reader of this forum. I finally decided to post. I get 2 boxes of halves per week. Had a good year last year. This week one box was zero but the other was fantastic. 11 Walkers, 1 Ben, 2-64 Kennedys, 19-40% Kennedys including a 1970. However, the best were the 3 Barber halves. I've only found 2 my entire time searching. A great score!

You aren't spending 500 bucks, you're just getting change for it. But if you don't have 500 bucks to your name, yeah, that's a problem. Patience.

Well, there's a good first target for you, then! :) (I remember my son saying the same exact thing, repeatedly. Now he's got a very part-time after-school job at a fro-yo place; it doesn't pay a lot, but he really likes having some income that he can say he's earned.)

Searched a couple hundred dollars in dimes and dollar coins today. Only 2 things of note:

I've done 10 more of the current box. No more wheats.
A few nice copper. And I'm finding a lot of shiny 97-2008 pennies.

Previous 3 boxes of halves netted 1, 2, & 1 40%ers. The wife & I just finished a better box which had 1 reverse ender (turned out to be a 1964).

    8 x 1964 (all AU)
    2 x 1965
    1 x 1968-D
    1 x 1969-D
    1 x 1973-S Impaired Proof

Plus, I have a box waiting in the wings that has a reverse Wender, my first. I will report on that later. Meanwhile, here’s a pic of the box we just searched:

What exactly is an Impaired proof?

A proof coin that has been taken from its OGP and released into circulation. See my 2011-S Sac above or @TexAg 73-S

BTW @furryfrog02 your 2011-S Sacagawea is still a sweet coin to find in circulation!

To start searching through halves you will need a minimum $600 available as capital investment. $500 to buy the box and then $100 set aside to pay for the coins you decide to keep and save. This way you'll be able to cycle through one box after the other and still have the $$$ to do so for a while.

Once you start working and can start saving up money you can work your way up to nickels and dimes before going onto halves (or quarters- but these tend to yield proportionally fewer results). You'll also want to have transportation ironed out as a box of halves (or nickels) will be too heavy to walk home or carry with you on a bike, which I've read on here has been attempted! A box of halves is literally like a boat anchor.
