Went and bought $50 in pennies for my Nephew this weekend and $50 in Nickels for me was going to buy $100 in Nickels but he comes first. I finally found a proof Nickel a 1973S the first one I have ever found. I buy my Nickels from the same Bank everytime because they don't order Nickels the head Teller says she has a vending business that brings in a ton everyweek so they just roll them at the Bank. The reason I think this is good is because everytime I have purchased $50 or $100 in Nickels I have found at least 1 Silver, same thing today but also a Proof. I found 15 dated 1955 or earlier although I didn't need any I found a real nice 51D and 1962D that was UNC the nicest Nickel I have found older than 1995. I didn't find any Buffalos but I have and the 4 other banks in town have never yielded a single nickel before 1955 and they order and return through armored carrier. Maybe this Bank is just lucky for me but I am not changing. I wish I could find a proof cent just for the fun of it. Do any of you ever find proofs other than Halves?

went thru 50 dolars in halves found nothing of import. went thru 15 dollars in dimes found one 1951-D silver dime, nothing else.Went thru 8 bucks worth of nickles, first two rolls had nothing good, the second two rolls had nothing newer than 1964,got a 1942-P silver war nickle, two 1939-D,two 1940-D,several each 1951-d's,1953-d's,1955-d's,1958-d's,got about 20 dollars in pennies but didn't go into them yet. Oh Yeah the older nickle rolls were in great shape, these have been out of circulation for awhile.still mint shine on some.

Way to go on finishing the Whitman #2. How hard is it to finish the #1 I am 24 short and refuse to buy any because I am determined to find them all in rolls. Is this a pipe dream or can it be done? Getting another $50 today the quest continues.

    Bob,
I was wondering the same thing only with 1997 halves. I Have noticed alot of 1997D halves in AU/BU condition in all the boxes I have gone through. Maybe they have been sitting in my area for a while? Jeff

Just finished 4 boxes of halves.. this is what I found: The (5) 40% " keepers " were found in two rolls out of all four boxes.

    (3) - 1966
    (1) - 1967
    (1) - 1969
    and
    (1) 2008S proof
    (1) - 1982 " no fg "

    Out of 10 boxes of halves: 6 boxes had no silver. The other 4 boxes: box #1 19 40%ers, 4 90%ers and 1 Franklin! Box #2 17 40%ers, 4 90%ers and 2 Franklins! box #3 1 40%er 1 90% and 1 Franklin. Box #4 1 40%er. Totaling out at 38 40%ers, 9 90%ers and 4 Franklins!!! Plus I found a 1942 wheatie and a 62 silver dime in the rejected coin slot on the coin machine at my bank!!!!

Seems like you tend to get most good finds out of a single box or two.

That is what I have noticed also. The silver is usually spread throughout the box if it is a really good box. If you fail to find silver in the first 10 rolls then the remainder of the box may be a loss.

$221 in loose halves and customer rolled coins.

    Only 1 x '67 & 1 x 81s

Pretty weak for customer rolled coins, I thought.
