    Beautiful!!! I have only found 1 silver dime (64) and it wasn’t even coin roll hunting lol, it was in my fathers change bottles. I also found 2 war time nickels coin roll hunting. That is a nice spread , I use Mason Jars because that’s basically all I have. I’d like to give you an important tip that every stacker should know. Try to get rid or seperate any rusted pennies (greenish tones) from your regular pile. This greening can and will spread when you have pennies altogether. Another HUGE thing I make sure to do is put atleast 1 packet of SILICA in every jar I’m using. This helps maintain a low moisture level! I’ve also seen rice being used. But this is more so for coins you expect to sit for quite some time. ( I have about 6 packets with my copper pennies I plan to melt once I hit 20lbs. Half way there!!!)

    Jeep, yes, you must tread lightly (pardon the pun), so your banks don’t cut you off from ordering/depositing.

    My town is larger than yours, but still no coin counters (I reroll everything), and I must spread out my orders/deposits so I don’t burden any of the banks/branches.

    Why would you do that, given that it reduces their value from $29 or so (assuming 146 cents per pound) to maybe $20 tops? They're brass, not pure copper, and you can't sell a lump of brass for copper prices.

    I just go to my tellers and hand them rolled coins and exchange them for more lol

    Lol, well the idea behind it is that the penny will become non-currency and legally obsolete and people think when that happens they’ll cash older ones in for copper prices. Which would make it worth it. But your right they are not pure copper making them bronze or brass depending on the years. I personally am saving up for my own foundry and gear to make my own assorted bars. BTW.. just finished a hunt: 1CAF9C43-D4FD-49E9-B354-794AFF046BF7.jpeg

    Even if they are rolled, the tellers have to open them and count them and reroll them. My wife used to work at a bank in town. I just hate making all that extra work for them.

    That’s wild! I can’t imagine them doing 2500 pennies. Coin star is the way to go if that’s the case. There’s a store called Publix, they have there own counters and you can buy the coins from them.

    I'm fortunate enough to have my penny box bought by the store. If I could afford to do nickel, dime or even quarter boxes they would probably take them. Alas the best I can hope for is a nickel box at some point.

    I'm thinking to do a roll I marked 6 ++ of copper.

    I get that, and if you're wanting to do it as a craft or hobby, that's fine. Right now, though, 95% copper/5% zinc sells for a lot less than 95% of pure copper's price -- in fact, less than half, from what I've seen. That means your bar cast from melted cents would be worth less than the face value of those cents.

    If the cent is discontinued and they lift the legal ban on melting them, this might change -- if foundries have a steady stream of copper with this composition, they can probably come up with specialized processes to refine it, and afford to pay more for it. Someday.

    But if your goal is profit, not craftsmanship, you'd do best to cash them in and buy silver or gold. Or, much better, stocks. :)

    Whenever I have a small amount of coins to dump (<$50), I usually go the Coinstar/amazon route instead of dealing with the bank. I figure that I'll eventually buy something off of amazon anyway!

    Believe me I’ve run the scenarios in my head about the whole selling pennies as copper thing. I started with that ambition like 2months ago. But I also realized halfway through that they are not even pure copper. Let alone who knows if we’ll ever even drop the penny. Though I think it’s possible , lugging around lbs and lbs of pennies seemed rediculous. I’ve already decided, as you suggested to cash them in and buy as much of silver bars/bullion as possible.

    I'm fortunate to have a large basement to horde stuff. I just started this so I'm sure it gets crazy. I started because I was reading about people stashing away large amounts of pennies and after years finding rare ones in the stash. So that's my plan,horde as many as I can get. But i don't see how they could do away with them.But I did send someone to get me 7 rolls of half dollars the bank is holding for me. Post results later. Good hunting!

    I know! It was already well loved! Odd. BTW, everyone, I see that we are finally to page 1909 of this thread. A tip of the hat to the cent hunters.

    When I first started I was hoarding a bunch of different things. The problem I had with that is it took too many coins out of my return. Like I’d get 10$ of pennies and wind up only returning 5$. As I got more involved and educated I started realizing saving so many things wasn’t worth it so now my specifications are finer. Nickels - only pre 60s / hole fillers/AU’s/ what I need for decade sets. The decade sets is what I do for 60s and 70s, soon I’ll do 80s and 90s too. For pennies I only keep AU coppers, 59-64 plain/ 68s-73s/ 2009s/and wheats.
