Went to the bank and they had a $1000 bag of dimes from their coin machine, but they would not sell it to me. I assured them I would take it to a different bank to turn it in, but they still declined. :(

Went to another bank and got $175 of Ikes, all of them extremely toned. They were kept outside, according to the customer, and some of them are copper in color, as if the Copper/Nickel layer was gone. Very interesting. The teller told me that there are a couple of silver ones in there.....I'll post the results, as I have my doubts that there is....

    What is that foreign coin?

I couldn't stand it......I just went through the $175 of Eisenhowers and there were no silvers. I found one 71 that looks like the "peg leg" error, so I'll check that one later. Most of these are UGLY.....I think I'll just turn all but a few of them back in...

A few of the the reverse of the 72 were struck witht the proof reverse. So, you are looking for the three islands off of FL. Three islands are the normal reverse, the error is when they are kind of combined into one.

The 71 has a R in Liberty that is straight, not beveled out on the bottom. That's all I know about....

What's the best way to turn in searched pennies and nickels in large quantities? I have 3 boxes worth that I have searched currently in buckets that I need to cash in, should I just take them to a Commerce Bank for the free coin machine? Will that machine take thousands of coins? What techniques have others of you used?

New record (not a good thing)

Ok 10th box in a row of halves - no silver. Thinking about re-wrapping the box and putting a few of my own silver in it. Then leave it on my porch and drive around the block. That way I can "find" silver again!

First, look for rotated die errors. That's the easiest. 20* or more is worth keeping. 90*, and 180* die rotations are the most desireable. Actuaaly do this for ALL U.S. Coins.

Next, I check the date and mintmark and the word' liberty' for any kind of doubled die hits.

Then If it is a 1998,1999,or 2000 check for a wide A M in America. If the date is 1992 or 1992-D check the A and the M to see if they are close or touching. Also check the initials 'FG'. On a WIDE A M cent the 'F and the G ' will be close to the base of the stairs. For a ' close AM' the initials will be farther away from the base of the stairs. Also on a WIDE A M the 'G' will look alot like this. On the close AM the 'G' has no horizontal serif or leg. Also on a close AM there is a wider space between the ' M and the E' in America.
That should keep you busy. Also I reccommend buying R. S. Yeomans
" A Guide Book of United States Coins" "The Official Red Book".

Look for what you want. I look for wheats, Indian heads, errors like 1955 DD, or anything that looks interesting to me. I also pull all pre 1982 pennies and save them because of their copper content. It all depends on what you enjoy collecting.

Also, for cents look for 84 and 97 double ear lobes, and 94 for doubling on the columns on the memorial....

I live in a town of about 27,000 people. I am thinking someone is broke and decided to cash in their collection, or a collector died and their heirs didn't know what to do with it decided to dump all the wheat cents into circulation.
