Yeah. I'm not really protesting a kid getting into collecting. I started at 8. But I didn't start buying coins bigger than Cents until about 12 years ago and that was just statehood quarters. I've only been officially collecting bills for a couple of years. Didn't get real serious, hunting at banks for stuff until 2013. I mean I always saved stuff from pocket change, but I didn't buy a box of coins until 2013. Before that it was just a few rolls now and then.

To have lots of money at 12 is scary and strange to me. Maybe he's being helped by a parent.

It's great to hear that the YNs are into the hobby, and more power to him.
That said, I understand your frustration. You've been doing this a while and now your branches you've built a rapport with are being invaded. Hopefully for your sake the novelty will wear off for him and he'll continue to CRH, but do so in moderation. Best of luck to you, I hope it all works out in the long run.

Stopped at 2 banks on my way home and found only 3 half dollars...Clad.

Such is the life of a CRHer!

I'd be curious to see a front and back picture of this coin. It sounds interesting and rather unusual from what you describe.

Well, bad news for me. Wells Fargo in my area is getting rid of all their coin counting machines so I cannot dump there anymore. I have another bank but this will limit my boxes of halves from 6-7 a week to 3. This will happen in January so I will be going crazy in December with the boxes.

I'm upset about this too. I may have to cut back from 8 boxes to 6. Or not. First bank here I come! If I were you I would try to find another bank with a coin counter.

Personally, I'd stick it to Wells Fargo by rerolling and continue to dump on them!

Just a suggestion: the decisions to eliminate coin counting machines are not made locally, they are made at a higher level. I'd maintain a good relationship with WF if for no other reason than to have them as a potential source for CWRs in the future. Just my thought, don't burn that bridge.

Final count and finds for the week. Four of the five remaining boxes from Loomis were skunks, but one had some nice finds in one box.

I'll look into other banks, other than the two that I have that includes Wells. I can't buy boxes and reroll to bring back to the Wells Fargo Branches. A manager said only business accounts can do that. I can still get boxes from Wells just can't dump there. I have good relations with the tellers and will definitely ask for CWR once the coin counting machines go in January.

That's the problem with big chain branches: they are often horribly inconsistent in the decree of their policies. There are no coin counting machines at Wells Fargo branches in California. In fact, I have only seen them at Wells Fargo branches in Iowa. Anyway, I used to buy boxes from Wells Fargo with frequency. I'd re-roll the coins, box them back up and drop them off at another branch. I rotated around when I did this and while I only went through about two boxes a week, I never had a problem.

So, I would continue to buy from this branch with the manager who is blowing smoke and utilize the other branches to return boxes. Some tellers may even be open to you exchanging your boxes for their sealed ones. Bring them in with the idea of exchanging for bills or depositing but get a feel for how busy they are and what kind of mood they're in. I would practice this in moderation if you tried this but it would probably work if they know you're a collector.

I'm going to California for Christmas and planned to hunt there. That's lame to hear there are no machines there. Wyoming Wells Fargos and Texas Wells Fargos I know have machines. Guess it's all regional. With my other bank, I have 4 places to dump but they are pretty spread out. Out of courtesy, I like to dump $500 at a time and no more. My girlfriend dumps $750 at a time to reduce an extra dump. I didn't want to do that because some of the smaller tellers can barely handle the $500. Guess they'll just have to get stronger.

That's another reason I spread my hobby around and only show up with a max of a box of Cents and one other box. Most of the tellers around here are older gals and some have trouble with a box of Nickels. Two I know have trouble with a box of Cents. I try to pick a strong teller on the days I'm swapping Quarters!

Here it is - clearly post-mint damage of some sort. Only question is whether it was done intentionally or if something happened to it. FullSizeRender-100.jpg FullSizeRender-99.jpg
